Appearance:
Personality: Kaizen is a master at adapting to whichever situation he finds himself in. His extensive study on the human psyche has allowed him to fit in with virtually anyone by quickly adjusting his demeanor and personality to match the other person’s.
In reality, Kai is a kind hearted person who simply wishes to help the village grow and expand. Those who know him truly well - a very small list - know him to be a quirky individual who has a very peculiar sense of humour. Kai is fiercely loyal to Kumogakure, and he is an intensely focused person. When he is working, he will block out nearly everything around him in order to complete his task. This has caused him to appear cold and uncaring to some of his comrades.
History: Kai was born to a pair of commoners. His father was a hunter and his mother ran a small herbal shop in the village. Their life was a simple one at first, and Kaizen spent a lot of time with both of his parents, eager to learn all that he could about their crafts.
Accompanying his father on many of his hunting trips, Kai learned how to move about quietly, and how to be aware of his surroundings. He proved to be a fast learner, picking up the basics of how to track and set traps. It was while out with his father that Kaizen first met the owls that he would later be so fond of summoning.
Whenever he wasn’t out with his father, Kaizen could usually be found in the shop with his mother, learning about the many different herbs and their effects. He enjoyed those times with her, and did his best to learn as much as he could.
Those times, however, were destined to come to an unfortunate end.
Shortly after Kai turned five, his mother gave birth to another son – Sora. At first things seemed to be great still, and Kai spent a lot of time with his newborn brother, wanting to be the best brother he could. But not long after Sora was born, Kaizen’s mother – Akira – began acting strangely.
Her behavior would swing erratically from one extreme to another, and then she would go through periods of being completely normal. Kaizen’s father – Isamu – worried that she might be suffering some sort of illness from having the child, but the doctors could find no sign that anything was physically wrong with her. Summing it up to postpartum stress, they said it would likely go away after several weeks.
Kaizen and his father waited, hoping that the doctors had been right, and waiting for Akira to get better. After a time, it seemed like she had settled into a more calm and normal state. Relief filled the household and life began to get back to normal. It didn’t take long, however, for Kai to realize that there was still something very, very wrong with his mother. He grew concerned when he overheard her arguing with herself, and when he approached her about it, she denied it ever happening. Kai witnessed other times when he would be mid conversation with her, and she would suddenly stop talking and stare straight ahead, her eyes strangely out of focus. Another time, while Sora was having a particularly loud fit, Kaizen watched as his mother covered the infant’s nose and mouth with her hand even after the boy had stopped crying, with that same stange look in her eyes. It wasn’t until Kai – growing concerned - tugged on Akira’s sleeve, that his mother took her hand off quickly, her eyes returning to normal.
Those strange outbursts began happening more and more while Isamu was away, and after he returned from one of his hunting trips, Kaizen approached his father about it. Instead of listening to the boy, however, Isamu told him it was nothing, scolding Kai and warning him not to talk about his mother in such a way. Isamu was in denial. He continued to believe that everything was normal and refused to listen to his son’s fears.
A few days before Sora’s first birthday, something terrible happened. Isamu had been away hunting, hoping to gather enough food that they could celebrate Sora’s birthday with the rest of their friends and family while Kaizen and Akira had stayed home with the baby, getting everything ready for the party. Kai was in the kitchen, putting up decorations, while his mother bathed Sora in the tub. As Kaizen was finishing up, his mother walked into the kitchen, the same spaced out look in her eyes. Kai attempted to get her attention, calling out to her, but she simply walked past him, heading towards the living room. His concern growing, Kaizen followed her into the living room, asking her where Sora was. If she heard him, Akira showed no sign of it. His mother sat down on the couch, staring straight ahead, and Kai slowly approached her. As he was only a few feet away, that was when he noticed the water. Akira's arms were completely drenched, and there were splashes on her chest. Panic filled Kaizen as he asked his mother where Sora was one last time. To his surprise she turned to him, the look in her eyes never changing. "He's in the bath."
Kai had left his mother then, running into the bathroom to discover his infant brother floating face down in the tub. Quickly pulling Sora out, Kaizen did everything he could to try and get the boy breathing again, but it was no use... When Isamu returned home later that night, he found his wife sitting in the living room, cradling a doll in her arms and calling it Sora. He found his other son still in the bathroom, holding Sora's lifeless body in his arms.
Isamu could deny it no longer... He broke that day. Akira was taken to a special facility where they could look after her and keep her from harming anyone else. Kai struggled to understand why... why his mother, who had loved Sora so much, had done something like this. He wanted to understand, he needed to... Isamu on the other hand, did not want to understand. He hated his wife and what she had done. To him she was nothing more than a monster, and many times he wished he had listened to Kaizen's warnings instead of brushing them aside. It was that guilt that made him leave.
When Kai turned eight, his father left on a 'hunting trip' and never came back. The boy waited for weeks, wondering if his father had simply become lost, or was hunting an especially difficult prey. After he ran out of food and supplies, Kaizen went to his aunt's house, returning to his home every day for three months, hoping to see some sign that his father had returned.
Time passed and eventually, Kaizen's aunt was forced to do something to prevent him from wasting his days wondering where his father was. That was when she sent him to the academy.
Kai's time at the academy was far from easy. At first he wasn't even aware that he had an aptitude for the shinobi arts, and things were a struggle for him. He didn't discover his natural affinity for water release until he woke up from a nightmare one night to discover his room covered in a layer of water. Over time, Kaizen's ability to pick things up quickly helped him develop his skills. He suffered through many bullies that called his mother a monster, and his father a coward. Kai did his best to shrug the comments off, knowing in his heart that they weren't true... hoping...
He graduated from the academy at age eleven, with decent marks all around. From there Kaizen was placed in a team, where he quickly displayed proficiency with stealth and tactics. Kai was disgusted at his natural affinity for Water Release due to the memories it brought up of his brother. He did everything he could to avoid using it whenever possible, and as such, he began to research genjutsu and barrier techniques.
Kaizen became a Chuunin after his first exams at age 14. The way that he fought in the exams caught the eye of the ANBU and after some time, he was eventually recruited to be a member. During his time with the ANBU, Kai developed his signature technique which made him particularly adept at information retrieval. He made a bit of a name for himself by gathering very valuable information from enemy shinobi during his missions, even picking up a few techniques derived from the enemy's own.
When he turned twenty one, Kai was asked to join the interrogation division, as his skills were highly useful to them. Taking the assignment without complaint, Kaizen enjoyed the fact that he was able to help his village in a unique way. As his ability to infiltrate his target's mind grew, Kai began having sessions with his mother, who was still being held in the mental institution. He has made several attempts to venture into her mind to try and find a way to help her, or a way to find out why she was like this, but he has yet to succeed.
His loyalty to the village, and his unique skill-set brought him to the attention of the Raikage, who asked him to become his Spymaster. Kai was eager to accept a position that would help him to better serve his village and he jumped at the opportunity. He believes in the Godaime Raikage and what he is trying to do with the village, and it is Kaizen's goal to make those dreams a reality.

Kekkei Genkai:
Name of Kekkei Genkai: None
Clan: N/A
Description: N/A
Jutsu:
Custom Jutsu
Name of Technique: Illusive Barrier
Type of Jutsu: Genjutsu/Barrier
Rank: B
Range: Short - Long
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: 12
Description: Kaizen creates a barrier that, when entered by another person, traps that person in a genjutsu. At first the target will not notice anything different, but if they try and move towards an exit, they will find it harder and harder to move. The further they get from the center of the barrier, the higher the amount of pressure they will 'feel.' Even if they can overcome the pressure and still try to exit the barrier, they will find themselves blocked in. This technique is not meant to cause the target to believe that they are being harmed in any way, it is meant as a way of trapping the enemy within the barrier. As long as the genjutsu remains active on the target and they remain within the barrier, Kaizen can enter and leave the barrier unseen by the person/people within. This is because his chakra is mixed in with the barrier and the genjutsu itself, meaning that the target is simply incapable of seeing him.
As with most of Kai's genjutsu techniques, in order for a target to escape this genjutsu, they must have someone else's chakra enter their system in order to free them. The size of the barrier is dictated by how much chakra is put into the technique, but Kai can currently only create one as large as a large room.
Weakness: This technique takes a long time to set up. Aside from the large number of hand seals, Kaizen must spend a good length of time establishing the barrier which, depending on the size, could take anywhere from a few minutes, to a half an hour or more. This renders the technique fairly useless in combat, unless Kai has had time to prepare it beforehand. Allies can also be caught within the technique if they are not careful, and Kaizen will have to waste chakra in order to break them out of the illusion. A person with strong enough willpower (and I seriously mean strong) may be able to push their way out of the barrier, which means that the effects of the genjutsu will fade over a few seconds. This event is unlikely, and not something that has been seen before, but it is theoretically possible.
====================
Name of Technique: Illusion: Multiple Darts
Type of Jutsu: Genjutsu
Rank: D
Range: Short - Long
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: 4
Description: Kaizen forms the handseals and then fires a dart from his blowgun. The darts appear to multiply once they leave the gun, causing the target to see a large amount of darts coming their way.
Weakness: The extra 'darts' will not do any harm, and as long as the target can dodge out of the way of the original, the technique is useless. The genjutsu will dissappear as soon as the darts are past their target.
====================
Name of Technique: Clone Technique: Multiple Darts
Type of Jutsu: Ninjutsu
Rank: C
Range: Short - Long
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: 5
Description: This technique is incredibly similar to Kai's other technique, Illusion: Multiple Darts, except for the fact that these darts are real. Kaizen weaves the same handseals as before, adding one different one at the end. As soon as the dart leaves the blowgun, it multiplies and heads towards the target.
Weakness: The darts move in one direction, meaning that the target can dodge out of the way if they are fast enough, or they can use a shield or other form of cover to protect themselves. The darts alone would not do enough damage to seriously harm an opponent, they are usually poisoned and meant to cause damage over time, or paralysis instead.
====================
Name of Technique: Vacuum Sphere
Type of Jutsu: Barrier
Rank: B
Range: Short
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: 6
Description: Kaizen surrounds himself in a spherical barrier that cuts out all sound and vibrations from within. This in essence means that, while Kai is within the barrier, any noises he makes cannot be detected, and any vibrations from movements cannot be detected either. This technique does not hide him from sight, nor does it make him invisible to sensors. The barrier will follow him as he moves, or he can transfer it to another person, which requires physical contact to be made.
Weakness: The barrier is not a physical barrier in the sense that it would stop any attacks or objects from getting through. It's sole purpose is to make it more difficult for Kai to be heard or detected by his movements, such as from someone using the Hiding Like a Mole technique. Anyone that can see Kaizen can still attack him or pursue him with ease. It requires great focus in order to keep the barrier up and perfectly stable, so if Kaizen is attacked, or distracted, it is likely that the barrier will weaken, allowing opponents to hear or feel Kai until he has a chance to re-establish the barrier.
====================
Name of Technique: Dreamscape
Type of Jutsu: Genjutsu
Rank: A
Range: Short - Long
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: 7
Description: Kaizen creates a genjutsu that traps the target in a dream-like state. When the technique first hits, nothing will seem amiss. The target will be able to act as normal for a few seconds, or at least they will think they are acting as normal. Very soon, things will begin changing, directed by the target's own subconscious. Things that they want to have happen will appear to occur, and the environment will appear to change around them to better suit their needs. The key strength in this jutsu is that it uses the target's own subconscious in order to create the illusions. The effects vary dependent on the target, but they will believe that they are achieving success in whatever their intended goal was, and whatever their subconscious desire is. It is a very difficult technique to recognize unless the target has exceptional willpower, as their own mind is essentially working against them. Any techniques that the target attempts to use while within the dreanscape will still use chakra, but they will have no real life effect. Within the dreamscape the target will see their effects however, and thus they will believe the techniques to have worked.
Weakness: This technique requires Kaizen to focus chakra into his hands for a period of five seconds after forming the last seal. This means that, within that time, if he is forced to move his hands before casting the technique, the genjutsu will fail to work, but will still spend chakra. Kaizen must also have a visual on his target before he can use the technique, if he attempts to cast the technique and they are out of his sight, the technique will fail and, once again, will waste the chakra. The technique requires an external chakra source to break the user out once they are under the influence.
====================
Name of Technique: Nightmare/Dream Eater
Type of Jutsu: Genjutsu
Rank: A
Range: Short - Long
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: 7
Description: This technique is essentially the exact same as Dreamscape but, instead of the target being caught within an illusion where good things are happening and their desires are being satisfied, the target will find themselves trapped in a world where the worst things they can imagine begin happening to them. This technique is usually used as an instrument during interrogation in order to break the subject's will. They will find themselves being tortured by their own subconscious. Same with the Dreamscape technique, if the target attempts to use techniques while within the genjutsu, then they will have no real world effects but the chakra will still be spent.
====================
Name of Technique: Dreamcatcher
Type of Jutsu: Genjutsu/Kinjutsu
Rank: S
Range: Short - Long
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: 9
Description: Kaizen's signature technique, and the one that has earned him a bit of a reputation. Essentially what this technique is, is a blending of genjutsu mixed with some elements of the Yamanaka's hidden mind transfer technique. Kai places the target under a genjutsu, usually using this technique in conjunction with his Dreamscape technique or his Nightmare technique. Once the opponent is under the genjutsu's spell, Kai uses this technique to enter his consciousness into their mind. Instead of taking over the enemies body, Kaizen is let into their mind and able to see their thoughts. He will see these thoughts as a visual representation and can use this for a variety of different purposes.
The first major purpose that it is used for is to retrieve information from the target. By delving into the target's mind, Kai is able to, over some time, see into their memories and uncover things they have tried to keep hidden. This effects of this technique can be greatly amplified when used in a special chamber, with other shinobi lending Kaizen chakra and assistance.
The second purpose is for influencing the target. Once Kai is fully linked into his target's mind, he is able to manipulate their subconscious to a degree. This is seen by the target, as the genjutsu shifting around them in different ways. By doing this, Kaizen can place suggestions or commands into the target's subconscious that are nearly impossible to refuse. The more difficult the suggestion, the longer it takes to plant the suggestion, and the more chakra it takes. Kai must be very, very careful when doing this, as he must use his own chakra to influence the genjutsu. If he does not control his chakra with the utmost precision, he risks accidentally breaking the target out of the technique altogether. For this reason, Kai does not try to plant suggestions unless it is absolutely necessary.
*THIS IS NOT A COMBAT TECHNIQUE AND WILL NOT/CAN NOT BE USED AS SUCH!*
Weakness: This technique requires the opponent to already be caught within one of Kai's genjutsu techniques before it can be used. If the opponent is not trapped in the illusion, their mind will block Kai out, and cause him to temporarily lose consciousness. Kai can also suffer backlash while inside his target's mind. This can take the form of severe migraines, temporary blackouts, nosebleeds, and many other things he has yet to experience. For this reason, Kaizen usually only performs this technique in a controlled environment where he can remove himself from the target's mind at any given moment.
SummonsName: Darwin
Species: Great Grey Owl
Age: 48
Size: Large (about 8ft tall)
Unique Traits: - Can communicate with humans via speech
- Capable of creating a powerful wind with his large wings
- Can fly and carry up to one larger person, or two very small people, for short distances
- Capable of creating genjutsu techniques via eye contact or sound
- Can give off a powerful killing intent if he wishes to intimidate his target
- Very wise and intelligent
Appearance:Jutsu:Name of Technique: Eye of Wisdom
Type of Jutsu: Genjutsu
Rank: C
Range: Short - Long
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: None
Description: Darwin must make eye contact with his target which then traps them under his genjutsu. Once the target is trapped under the genjutsu, they begin experience rapid shifts in their surroundings. The most common perceived shifts are: a change in the level of gravity, making them feel like they are floating before falling back to the ground, and: a change in their balance, causing them to find it incredibly difficult to stand straight and making it virtually impossible for them to move in any intended direction. The change in balance can also have the effect of making the target quite nauseas, even potentially making them vomit uncontrollably if they have a weaker than normal will.
Weakness: This technique can be escaped by anyone experienced enough in standard genjutsu. It also requires Darwin to make eye contact with the target, otherwise the technique will fail.
====================
Name of Technique: Who's There?
Type of Jutsu: Genjutsu
Rank: C
Range: Earshot (Short - Long)
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: None
Description: Darwin begins making his signature bird call, mixing in a little of his chakra to create a genjutsu. If an opponent remains within earshot for thirty seconds while Darwin is making his call, then they will fall under his genjutsu. The target will see a large amount of owls coming in to attack, swarming around his vision every time the target tries to retain visual contact of either Darwin or Kai.
Weakness: The opponent can escape the technique if they are familiar enough with genjutsu techniques. The target must also hear the sound for at least thirty seconds for it to take effect.
====================
Name of Technique: Bird of a Feather
Type of Jutsu: Genjutsu
Rank: C-B
Range: Short - Long
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: None
Description: This technique works very similar to the Demonic Hell-Viewing technique in the way that the user simply has to use look at their opponent and focus their chakra to put the target under their spell. The target will see themselves surrounded briefly by falling feathers before the feathers fall away and the target will see whatever it is that they are most afraid of.
Darwin can place another layer of genjutsu over the first if he does not lose visual contact of the target. This layer will activate upon the first layer being dispelled. If the first layer is successfully dispelled, the target will see another sudden flurry of feathers before a massive version of Darwin will appear before them. The owl will appear to swallow them whole and they will be stuck in the darkness of his stomach unless they can dispel the second.
Weakness: Darwin must make visual contact with his target and prepare his chakra for a short time. This technique can be dispelled like any regular genjutsu and does not really cause the enemy any harm, it is meant as a distraction.
History: Darwin is one of the oldest living owls in the forest. He met Kai on the boy's first hunting trip with his father. Darwin found the boy quite interesting, and kept an eye on him as he grew. During a particularly rough patch of bullying during Kai's time in the academy, he went searching in the forest, hoping to find a trace of his father. It was then that Darwin decided to reveal himself to the boy. The two became friends, with Darwin acting as a mentor of sorts to Kaizen while he completed his schooling. Upon Kai's graduation, Darwin agreed to act as his first official summoning and the two have worked together ever since.

- Capable of communicating with humans via speech
Appearance:Athena:
Romulus:
Jutsu:Athena Specific:
Name of Technique: Swan Song
Type of Jutsu: Genjutsu
Rank: B
Range: Short - Long
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: None
Description: Beginning a sad song, Athena traps the target within a genjutsu, as long as they are within earshot. The target will then experience profound, debilitating sadness. This usually comes in the form of an experience, such as the target witnessing the loss of the person they care for most in this world. The experiences can range, however, but the result is always the same. The target will be left with feelings of intense sadness. The beauty of this technique is that, whether or not the target manages to dispel the genjutsu, the feelings will remain temporarily. In some cases, the sadness has been so profound that Kaizen's opponent's have simply given up the fight.
Weakness: This technique does not stop the target from fighting, nor does it harm them in any way. The target can dispel the technique if they are skilled in such a way, though the depression will remain for a brief time. The target must also be able to hear Athena's song for at least thirty seconds before the genjutsu takes effect.
====================
Romulus Specific:
Name of Technique: The Curse
Type of Jutsu: Genjutsu
Rank: B
Range: Short - Long
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: None
Description: Romulus begins a low song, infusing his chakra into it in order to trap his target within the genjutsu. Once the target is under the spell of the genjutsu, they will find themselves chained to a large rock with Romulus standing beside them. They will then witness the owl eating them alive. Romulus 'eats' the eyes last, and the target will still be able to see through them as they are swallowed into the black hole of Romulus' stomach. As they fall into the hole there will be a bright flash of light before - - they find themselves chained back to the rock and the process will start over again. This will happen five times before the target is brought out of the genjutsu.
Weakness: The target must be able to hear Romulus' song for at least a minute before the genjutsu will take effect. From there, the target is capable of breaking free of the genjutsu as long as they are skilled enough at dispelling them.
====================
Combination:
Name of Technique: Song of the Sandman
Type of Jutsu: Genjutsu/Combination
Rank: A
Range: Short - Long
Nature Type: N/A
Handseals: None
Description: Athena and Romulus begin a song together, adding their chakra into it to perform a powerful genjutsu technique. They must sing together for at least 90 seconds before the effects kick in. Once the target is under the spell of the genjutsu, they lose consciousness, slipping into a dream-state. This combination is one that they often use together with Kai, in order to allow him to use his Dreamcatcher technique. If the target falls under this genjutsu, they are incapable of escaping it themselves, unless they wake up (which takes many hours) or unless someone else breaks them out of it with their own chakra.
Weakness: *FIRST AND FOREMOST THIS IS NOT A COMBAT JUTSU* This technique is only used for story events, and will only be used on NPC's unless a PC wishes to experience it. The target must be able to hear the song for at least 90 seconds, else the technique will fail. This technique is also very draining on Athena and Romulus and they will be incapable of using any other techniques for a long time.
History: Kai met both Athena and Romulus when they were quite young, and the three of them bonded during his time in the ANBU and his time with the Interrogation Division. They are all incredibly loyal to each other, and Kaizen often employs them for special missions.
Name: Genzou
Species:Age: 6
Size: Small
Unique Traits: - Extremely nimble flyer
- Very keen eyesight
- Paranoid and easily frightened
- Loyal
- Cannot yet speak to humans, and his call has not yet fully developed (Genzou is often made fun of for his squeaky voice)
Appearance:Jutsu:None
History: Genzou is the grandson of Darwin. He is currently training with Kaizen to become stronger, and is used mostly for scouting and similar missions. Genzou is fiercely loyal and wants to become as strong and as skilled as his grandfather. Due to the fact that he can't speak english yet, sometimes communication between Kai and him can become a little difficult, but what he lacks in understanding, Genzou more than makes up for in earnest determination.
