Hayate Hyūzu
The Journey Begins The Genin Gets a Goal
Timeline: 2 months Into the Timeskip Summary
Hayate meets with Hiron to discuss a past mission and to train. Hiron gives Hayate a goal.
Opening the door, Hiron walked out of the basement. With an apron, that was dirty due the smithing he had done, Hiron held something wrapped in a cloth. At the form and size, it looked like it had the form of a sword. Walking towards the living room, he placed it on the table, as he sighed. Taking off the apron, he noticed that his clothes still got messy and dirty. However, he didn't planned on going to clean himself up yet. After all, he had taken the day off for himself, which meant he wouldn't do anything right away. That made him smirk, wondering where that attitude had came from. Placing the apron over a chair, Hiron walked towards the kitchen, deciding he had earned some saki, even though it wasn't the proper time on the day.
Hayate approached the door to Hiron Hon's home nervously. He hadn't spoken to the man in awhile and he did not wish to bother him if he was resting. Walking up to the entrance, Hayate paused briefly, giving himself the motivation to move ahead. He had almost fully recovered from the wounds he'd received during the liberation of Konoha, but the memories left behind invisble scars that constantly itched at the back of his mind. Hayate rubbed his now-healed shoulder, remembering back to the events in the forest. Steeling his nerves, he reached up a hand and knocked crisply on the door. 'Let's hope he's home.' he thought.
With a bottlle in his right hand, Hiron looked up with a frown. Taking a sip out of the bottle, he wondered who had decided to visit him. So far, he was sure he would stay the day likely alone at home. Walking out of the kitchen, Hiron placed the bottle on the table, next to the item that was wrapped in cloth. Not one moment he considered himself to first clean himself up as he walked towards the door. Opening it, he looked with a calm look and noticed Hayate. Though Hiron wondered what he had done to earn this visit, he could remember the young boy. It was one of the few who had managed to surprise him during the time that the oppression had been bothering them all. Not to mention, he heard several people highly talking about his deeds aftwards about it. Only question remained : Why was he here?
''Can I help you with something?'' Hiron calmly asked as he then leaned against the door post, still gazing at Hayate with a calm look. Hiron already a hunch of what Hayate would like, but he could remember that the boy had neither Lightning or Water Release. So maybe he didn't wanted a training.
As the door opened and Hiron leaned out, Hayate took note of his appearance. It was clear that Hiron had been working, judging from the mess on his clothes. Hayate took a second to respond, losing his voice at the sight of Hiron. "Hello Hiron-sama. I apologize for the interruption." Hayate bowed briefly and then stopped suddenly, remembering back to when Hiron had asked him not to bow to him. Straightening quickly, Hayate spoke, "I was hoping to have the chance to talk to you. If you have the time of course, I am sorry for bothering you at home." Hayate looked at Hiron, realizing that his words had come out more sloppily than he'd intended. He hoped that he hadn't interrupted anything too serious.
So he wanted to talk? Hiron kept looking with a calm expression, not revealing any thoughts or such. Suddenly he nodded and stepped aside so that Hayate could enter the home. ''I've time to talk. No problem, come in.'' Hiron responded. ''Besides, I wasn't really busy with something all too seriously.'' Hiron said, feeling that he could try to get the boy less nervous by saying that it wasn't much of a bother. Once Hayate would be inside, Hiron would close the door. ''Would you like something to drink?''
Hayate stepped into Hiron's home and admired his surroundings. It had a certain elegance to it. Glancing back as Hiron asked him if he wanted a drink, Hayate replied. "I am alright Hiron-sama. But thank you for the offer." Hayate stood awkwardly in the hall for a moment before saying, "Thank you for allowing me in, I appreciate your hospitality. Where would be best for us to talk?" He looked to Hiron, hoping that he didn't look too awkward simply standing with his hands clasped in the hallway.
''Unless you like this hall, I suggest we could go to the living room.'' Hiron replied with an amused tone as he already walked towards the room. Not looking over his shoulder to see if Hayate followed him, Hiron nodded towards the two couches and few chairs around a small table. ''Take a seat, if you would like.'' Hiron told Hayate as he walked towards the table to grab his bottle of saki. Afterwards, he would take a seat in one of the couches. ''So, what is it you want to talk about?'' He asked, in a more polite manner as he was wondering what the subject would be.
Smiling lightly as Hiron suggested moving rooms, Hayate followed him. Upon being offered a chair, he sat down, attempting to gather his thoughts. He didn't exactly know how to start the conversation and so, decided it would be best to just jump right in. "I know it may not be the best timing, but I wanted to talk about the liberation of Konoha, and my team's mission in the forest. If that would be alright with you?" Hayate looked to Hiron, awaiting his approval to continue.
Hiron hadn't expect that, but he didn't saw a problem with talking about that. He could remember that Feng had sent out the people that were needed to support the liberation of Konohagakure by wiping out the patrols on the perimeter of the Leaf. ''I wouldn't mind it. What troubles you then?'' Hiron asked in return as he took a sip of his bottle, still talking with a polite tone.
Looking around briefly, unable to at first meet Hiron's eyes, Hayate pondered how to continue. "I don't exactly know how to ask what I'm going to ask Hiron-sama, so please forgive my ramblings." He met Hiron's gaze and steadied himself. "I know that as ninja it is our duty to fulfill the mission, whatever the cost. And I know that sometimes that cost can be quite high. I lost two of my teammembers on the mission, and there's a third who's still in critical condition. I just... I guess I'm trying to ask at what point does the mission stop being a success, even if you achieve your goal. I find it hard, even understanding my role as a shinobi, to justify the loss of my teammates. I am sorry Hiron-sama, you probably have much better things to be doing than listening to the ramblings of a child." Hayate let himself trail off in the end, and he looked down.
He was angry at himself, angry that he had doubts about the shinobi way, and angry that he had failed his teammates. Hayate saw Yuki and Shurio's faces everytime he went to sleep. He hoped with all his might that Kinzo was going to pull through, and a part of him wondered if it was just so he didn't have another death on his conscience.
Noticing that the boy was strugeling with this, Hiron took a moment to formulate an answer. Taking a sip from the bottle, Hiron then sighed. Leaning forward, he placed the bottle on the table and looked with a very serious look in Hayate's direction, locking his eyes with the young boy. ''A ninja's duty is to ensure prosperity and safety for their village. You've experienced during the last conflict that this means we kill, sabotage and spy on those who can compromise that. It's something that asks a high cost of us and our comrades. Losses are normal in our trade. I've never seen or met a shinobi who hadn't experienced that.'' Pauzing, Hiron had talked with a very serious tone. ''Let's take that last mission of yours.... You were tasked to lead a group and had a task, likely to ensure the safety of the Leaf. Seeing that we're free again and this former oppression is nowhere to be found, you can say it was a success. However,'' Hiron leaned back as he raised his right eyebrow.
''You doubt it, due the fact that you've lost teammates, comrades and friends in battle. I may not be the most wise or intelligent person in the village, but that doesn't mean your mission is a failure or that you're a failure. The fact you feel something, either anger... sorrow... pain.. It means you're alive and human. I think that is actually the answer you're seeking.'' Hiron said with a firm tone, as if he was lecturing Hayate on something. He wasn't sure if he had explained it well, but it was one of the teachings he had given Lilia and would likely give Aimi when it would be her time. ''Remember... You can only do your best. That is what counts. If that means you'll lose a friend, then embrace the pain.. the anger, but never. Never blame yourself for it, cause that will be your downfall, kid.''
As Hayate listened to Hiron speak, he began to realize just how wise Hiron-sama truly was. There was a part of Hayate that didn't want to listen to Hiron's advice, that didn't want to accept the loss of his friends as a necessary part of the mission. Hiron was right, that feeling of loss, of regret, of anger; that was what made them human. That was what kept them going, kept them fighting for what was right, fighting for those that couldn't fight for themselves. Deep down Hayate knew that his teammates had understood this too. They had known the risks and still they had chosen to fight with everything they had. Hayate was proud of them. He knew it would be some time still before he could let go of the guilt and the feelings of failure, but Hiron's words had helped. They had helped to show Hayate the right path again.
"Thank you Hiron-sama. I don't think I can properly express my gratitude for the wisdom you have shared with me. I am sorry that you had to see me like this, and I'm sorry for bothering you. You truly are very wise Hiron-sama, I just hope that I haven't let you down." Hayate looked down, unable to meet Hiron's eyes. Though he still harboured doubts about his abilites and guilt over the death of his teammates, Hayate was beginning to feel better. Knowing that his team had made a difference in the liberation of konoha, knowing that Yuki and Shurio's sacrifice was not in vain helped a lot.
Shrugging lightly Hiron took the apologies like it was nothing important, though he did understood that Hayate meant every word. ''It's fine, kid. Most shinobi, if not all, have been in this situation. As for letting me down, I think that you haven't done that yet.'' Hiron told Hayate as he took another sip of his bottle. Sighging, Hiron looked in Hayate's direction as he pointed with the top of the bottle in the boy's direction. ''Just keep remember that you're human, Hayate. One that is young and needs to learn, experience and such. It's not weird to questions some things of life. 'Wise' people even tend to do that.'' Hiron said, refering to himself. Though it was a bit of mocking as he didn't really saw himself as a wise person. But if that would help Hayate then he would accept it. A bit.
Nodding his understandging to Hiron-sama's words, Hayate sat silently for a moment. Looking down he struggled to find a way to ask his next question. "I... I need to become stronger Hiron-sama. I need to be able to protect those I care about. I know that training will in time help me to become powerful, but I need something else. I need to be able to defend against one of my biggest weaknesses, but I don't know how to start, or how to learn that... Hiron-sama I'm not sure if you remember my clan's kekkei genkai, if not I understand, but if you do, then you remember it's innate weakness against lightning users. I need to somehow be able to fight that, but I have never really had anybody to train with that is a lightning user. I just... I'm just not sure how I can learn to defend myself when I don't have the opportunity to practice beforehand." Hayate hoped that Hiron would not be irritated with him, and he also hoped that Hiron understood what he was saying. Locking eyes with Hiron-sama, Hayate waited to hear his reply.
Now the kid wanted to train? Hiron wanted to scoff and tell him to scramble. He wasn't the sensei or the person to just train with people without a good reason. He wasn't Zakito, Sakamoto nor like Lilia. But the fact the boy really seemed to want his help, Hiron simply sighed. Placing the bottle on the table, Hiron began to think. He then returned his gaze, locking his eyes with Hayate's. ''Tomorrow in the morning, around 04:00 in the morning. Not a minute later. I will see what I can do to help. Your reason is at least enough for me to give you a chance, kid. Hope you won't screw it up.'' Hiron told him, trying to sound reserved. He was actually a bit curious to see how the kid would use his clan's ability to neutralize their natural weakness for lightning. In fact, he would like it to see if he would be able to think past the idea that a clan was important, but that was just his curiousity.
Hayate was taken by surprise. While he had hoped that Hiron-sama would be willing to help train with him, he had not really believed that Hiron would actually say yes. Hayate knew that Hiron-sama was incredibly busy, and from what he'd heard of the man, Hayate also knew that he did not go out of his way to train with others unless he had to. "Thank you Hiron-sama. I am truly honoured. I am sorry to come to you for this, as I know how busy you must be. I just... I admire your skill Hiron-sama, and I feel that there's a lot I could learn from you. I remember that first time that you sparred with me, in the rebellion's headquarters. I learned a lot from that, and I have you to thank for it." Hayate paused. He wanted Hiron to know that he wasn't just some needy kid coming and asking for training. Hayate greatly valued Hiron's opinion, and he did not wish for Hiron-sama to think of him as weak, or as a failure.
"I will do everything in my power to make sure that I don't screw it up Hiron-sama. Thank you for giving me this opportunity. I had tried going to my clan members first, to see if they knew of a way of defending against lightning. It seems, however, that my clan is too proud, and considers themselves above such weaknesses. Their pride has blinded them from the threat, and I have no wish to turn out like that. I want to become stronger Hiron-sama, and I will do whatever I have to in order to accomplish that... Even if it means that I must be completely stripped of my pride, and even if it alienates me from my fellow clan members. I want to be able to protect people Hiron-sama, and I believe you can teach me how to become stronger, to overcome my weaknesses." Hayate met Hiron's gaze, not looking away. He had made his case, and he hoped that Hiron would understand why he had come to him.
He was willing to go so far? To alienate himself from his clan? Hiron smirked a little as he leaned back in his seat in the couch. ''Protecting people is a good goal. But you need to know that you can't protect everybody. But that is a life lesson you'll learn latter yourself. I hope not for you, but that is a lesson that will be thrown on your path. Now or later.'' Hiron said. He wondered if the boy would really put his words in action. He didn't know many that had the courage to step up as individuals, when that would risk their clan's disapproval. Not to mention, a release that was weak to Lightning and then making a technique that would neutralize it? Quite interesting, if he had to say for himself.
"Thank you Hiron-sama. I shall be there no later than 04:00." Hayate gave Hiron a respectful bow. He would never say it out loud, because he knew it would only make Hiron laugh, but Hayate intended to become strong enough to protect everyone that he cared about. He had vowed to never lose anyone else and, although he knew his goal may be unrealistic, Hayate didn't care. He was tired of losing people. "I appreciate your hospitality, but I fear I have taken up enough of your time already.
The next morning, on the training fields. Time : 03:55 in the morning.
His arms folded, Hiron was dressed in his jounin atire. There was no warm breeze or the rays of the sun warming the grass. A light fog was present, hanging low as it gave a mysterious look to the grass field. Hiron closed his eyes as he breathed out. A damp of breath, visible due the low temperature and fog, was seen. It was a few minutes before the appointed time that Hayate and he would begin their training. Hiron wondered if the boy would be on time, but he had seemed to be serious about this. So it was just waiting to see if the boy would back up his words. But Hiron had an idea that he would do, giving the tone and manner how he had spoke yesterday.
Hayate approached the training field through the early morning fog. He was still a little early. Hayate knew that Hiron was deadly serious about being on time, and Hayate had no intention of being late. He entered the field to find Hiron already standing there. Walking up to him, Hayate spoke "Thank you for meeting me Hiron-sama. Shall we get started?"
So he was on time. That as good. Hiron nodded as he made a gesture with his right arm. ''Let's start indeed. Warming up is simple. Twenty laps around this field and then fifty push ups. I'll be here in case you need some ''motivation'.'' Hiron told Hayate as he then folded his arms again. A flicker of lightning was seen as Hiron nodded. It was clear what he now meant with 'motivation',
Nodding, Hayate's mouth set in a grim smile. He remembered what Hiron's 'motivation' looked like from before. He remembered back to the time they trained in the rebellion headquarters. This time however, Hayate had no intention of making it easy for himself. Increasing the weight of the metal around his ankles and wrists to the point where it was a struggle to move with speed, Hayate set out running. He pushed himself to keep up a good pace, fighting against the added weight. Hayate's determination to push himself was working. He was not moving as fast as he normally would, but he was still moving with speed, and getting even faster with each lap. Hayate was perspiring heavily as he rounded his last lap.
Coming to a stop in front of Hiron, Hayate didn't even pause before dropping to the ground in the push up position. He kept the weights at a very heavy level, strugling with each push up. He hesitated only once, on the thirtieth push up, struggling to push against the weight. As he forced himself to continue, Hayate couldn't even tell if Hiron had chosen to 'motivate' him or not, he was too focused on pushing himself harder. Hayate finished the last push up and reduced the weight, standing in front of Hiron. He was breathing heavily, waiting for Hiron to speak.
Watching with an expression that revealed no emotion or feeling, Hiron simply watched how Hayate performed the warming up. There was clearly no need to motvate him to perform better or work harder. Frowning, Hiron noticed that he was first moving slower. Was he slowing himself down? At first the jounin thought it wasn't like that, but after seeing him doing a few push ups, he was sure of it. That kid... Hiron thought as he could recall a similar person that always had tried to make every task harder, to keep pushing the limits. It brought up a brief smile on his lips. When Hayate was done, Hiron nodded. ''That is how it's done. Now that you're a bit warmed up, I want you to answer each question. When you answer wrong, then you will be 'motivated' to think again. What is the weakness of Lightning and why?'' Hiron fired the question, not giving much time as he continued. ''Time is ticking, kid...''
Hayate had barely enough time to even think, "Lightning's main weakness is Wind. This is because wind can easily break up the lightning due to it not being a natural conductor." Hayate knew he hadn't explained it as well as he could but he would wait for Hiron's judgement. Still trying to catch his breath he looked up to Hiron, hoping he'd been right.
The answer was good enough to Hiron as he didn't react instantly with shocking Hayate with some lightning. ''That is correct. Lightning often moves through a conductor, as it will be faster that way. And thus more chance to hit an opponent. Though it can move without a conductor as well, but will require more control of the user. Those who can perform Lightning jutsu without needing a conductor are often experienced users.'' Hiron told Hayate, further informing Hayate about the chakra nature release. He then decided to ask his next question. ''What is important to realize when you're not sure about a technique of your foe?'' Hiron asked, asking with a neutral tone.
Pausing to consider this question as it potentially had more than one answer, Hayate finally spoke. "It is always important to practice caution when you are facing an unfamiliar enemy or technique. Never play your best card unless you know your enemy has nothing left in hiding. Do not rush into a fight without first stuying your opponent." Again, Hayate wasn't sure if it was the answer Hiron-sama was looking for, but he had answered with what he felt was the right answer. And now he was going to find out what Hiron thought.
''And you're sure that this is a correct answer?'' Hiron asked in return as he noticed that Hayate was indeed playing it safe. The question that Hiron asked was asked in a way that he doubted Hayate's formulated answer. A bit of lightning crackled in the air as Hiron waited for an answer, a clear sign that the 'motivation' part never had left the mind of the jounin. It was also to make sure that Hayate would really think well before answering, as well to not linger too long before answering.
Noticing Hiron's question, as well as the crackling lightning that he had released, Hayate decided that hesitating was no longer a smart option. "I feel that it is. So yes, that is my answer." Hayate locked hid eyes with Hiron's, steeling himself for the inevitable sting of Hiron's lightning.
''Good. A bit of confidence is always good. Now that is done and you're warmed up, time to see what you were planning. You already are aware of the basic of the lightning nature chakra. That means that it often needs a conductor or such. And that air is the way to combat it in most cases as it stabilize the vibrations that are made by the chakra nature.'' Hiron pauzed as he thought further more. ''However, you said something to use your own release to counter Lightning? That is going to be hard, cause if I need to think about it... Wasnt it not based on Earth chakra nature? Meaning that that your metal will stand no chance against Lightning Nature techniques, kid.'' Hiron told Hayate. There would be no beating around the bush or being nice. He didn't see the use of it now nor would it benefit Hayate.
That was when Hayate smiled. He was used to the doubt, and he was used to people underestimating him. It wasn't a cold smile, but it was a knowing one. While it was true that Hayate had yet to train against another lightning user, that didn't mean he hadn't been practicing on his own, and trying things out. "You are right when you say that my release is based more on the Earth nature, however there is something unique about my release." Hayate continued smiling as he took out some of his clan's alloy and moulded it into a metal shaft. The shaft was about four feet long and had a dull gleam to it. "If you'd be so kind Hiron-sama, would you mind throwing a bolt of lighning at me?" Hayate asked the question with the smile still on his face. He had readied the shaft of metal in front of himself and expanded it so it had a long pointed end on the bottom. He held the shaft outwards, waiting.
Raising slowly his eyebrows, Hiron glanced at the shaft. A flicker of lightning crackled through the air, but didn't lashed out at Hayate yet. Hiron was pondering if this would be wise. To his own students, he would already lashed out and see if they were either doing something stupid or able to do what they had on their mind. The fact why Hiron was pondering was that he had a slim guess of what Hayate was going to try. After a few moments, more lightning crackled in the air, though Hiron didn't moved any of his hands. All he did was raising his right indexfinger, letting a bit of lightning lashing out. Due his expertise with the Chidori Current, Hiron could create some focused lightning to lash out at the metal shaft, keeping watch of what would happen.
Time seemed to slow for Hayate as he watched Hiron launch his bolt with precision. Hayate moved swiftly, spinning the shaft around, he would catch the lightning bolt with the shaft before plunging the shaft into the earth, allowing the lightning to flow into the earth and dissapate harmlessly. He looked back to Hiron smiling. "You see my release is also a great conductor, and has a tendency to draw lightning towards it. Initially I thought this made it more of a weakness for me, but now I see that I can use it to my advantage to direct the current where I wish. What do you think?" Hayate locked eyes with Hiron, hoping the man wasn't disappointed with his reveal.
The frown on Hiron's face changed to a smirk. The boy was clever, Hiron had to give him that. To utilize the natural weakness in a way that it could neutralize the danger was something not many could come up with. Let alone be able to perform it. ''I think it's clear that it's impressive for a genin to show this kind of potential already.'' Hiron said, making it clear he was quite pleased with what he saw. But of course, he had some words about it. ''But how do you counter it against fast moving techniques? Lightning techniques are often fast and not easy to predict. Not to mention, for bigger techniques you will need more than just one shaft, I assume. How did you plan to counter that, kid?'' Hiron asked Hayate.
His smile widening, Hayate eagerly responded, "That was initially my concern as well, and that is what I am hoping to overcome. I have a few ideas, but as I explained before, I haven't had too much of a chance to test any of them. To answer your question more directly however, I have one idea for a more defensive countermeasure against fast moving attacks. If you'd be so kind as to humour me once again, I would like to try my idea out" Hayate took a small step back and made several quick handsigns. His clan's alloy slid from its pouch and began covering his skin. Within a matter of seconds he was covered from head to toe by a thin layer of metal armour. Hayate stretched himself out, ensuring that the metal was flexible and covering everywhere.
"If you would be okay with it Hiron-sama, I would like to try defending against you. I only ask that you don't hold yourself back too much, or else I will never truly learn the limits of my defensive capabilities. As I have said, I am not sure whether or not my theory will work and so at first it may look like I am in trouble, but please know that this armour protects me a fair amount and any pain will be significantly reduced. So with that said Hiron-sama, I am ready. Please do not go easy on me." Hayate readied himself, waiting for Hiron's next move. He only hoped that Hiron-sama listened and did not go easy on him just because he was a genin, but from what he knew of the man, he did not think that would be too much of a problem.
Hiron looked as he then slowly raised his right hand. Opening it, lightning crackled through the air. Going easy on somebody? Hiron couldn't recall the last time he had done that. Seeing that Hayate was ready, Hiron lowered his arms, only holding the right open hand in front of him. Knowing that he shouldn't use a lightning jutsu that was developed and used to pierce or cut through material, he would use another technique. Turning his hand around, calmy as he kept watch of Hayate, the lighnting started to produce more sound. The lightning started to form a big hound, directed by the lightning that was still connected to Hiron's right hand. It went charging towards Hayate, making a menacing growling sound, lunging at Hayate.
Hayate saw the beast and a small flicker of fear coursed through him. Then, as quickly as it came, he shut it down. Instead of moving away from the charging hound, Hayate ran towards it. Stopping just in front of the charging beast, Hayate made a couple of quick handsigns. He crouched low and used his metal release to shoot to spears of metal from the bottom of his feet into the earth. He had effectively grounded himself, and if his plan worked like he'd hoped the lightning would be directed into the earth after hitting him, thereby significantly weakening the attack. Hayate stayed crouched, the metal armour surrounding him gleaming against the bright light of the beast lunging towards him. He had extended his armour below the surface which would make it impossible for him to move, but if his plan worked he wouldn't need to.
Hayate tensed as the hound jumped forwards, slamming into him. The force of the impact was enough to push him back, and Hayate knew that if he hadn't anchored himself into the earth he would have been pushed back a lot further. He could see the crackle of lightning as it coursed around his armour, and then -- That's when he felt it. The lightning had found small chinks in his metal armour and he was now getting small sparks of electricity surging through his body. Hayate doubled over in pain, falling to his hands and knees. As he pressed his hands to the earth however, he noticed something. Even amongst all the pain, Hayate managed to smile. He used his metal release to increase the armour around his arms and hands. Copying what he had done before, Hayate extended the armour past his hands, and sent it shooting forward into the earth. He was now grounded in four different places. As Hayate watched, the lightning arced away from his body and surged into the earth along the shafts he had made. As the last of the lightning left his body and dissapated into the earth, Hayate withdrew the shafts. Slowly he stood, shaking. Hayate allowed his metal armour to slide away, back into his pouch, and he faced Hiron, awaiting his comments.
Simply watching from his place, Hiron did noticed what happened. Even while his technique zapped Hayate, it wasn't nowhere from what it should be. A boy of Hayate's size should already be panting and not able to rise up from the size of that lightning beast. ''So you let the metal reduce the damage of my technique. Clever, got to hand you that, kid.'' Hiron said, crossing his arms together. He was wondering about piercing techniques as Chidori and such, but he knew better than to recommend that. ''Though word of advice. Don't try to catch a lightning technique that is meant to cut through material. I can predict you will be able to defend yourself, but there are people who are better than me and have more dangerous techniques. I bet you don't want to lose an arm for just trying something out.'' Hiron told Hayate on a very serious tone.
Bowing, Hayate was happy that Hiron-sama was not disappointed with his display. "I had thought of that as well Hiron-sama, and I agree. It would most certainly be wise for me to avoid the attacks rather than letting them hit me. I just want to be able to prepare in case I cannot avoid the attacks. I..." Hayate hesitated, not sure whether or not he should continue with what he was going to say. His next idea was perhaps one of the most impressive ones he'd had, but he'd never truly managed to test it, and he didn't want Hiron to think of him as a fool if it failed.
Deciding that being called a fool was worth it if he could truly grow stronger, Hayate forged ahead, "I also had one more thing that I wanted to show you Hiron-sama, if you are okay with it?" Hayate knew that Hiron was probably getting impatient, and he didn't blame the man. Hayate wasn't his student, but Hiron had been gracious enough to come out and allow Hayate to take up some of his time. He only hoped that Hiron wasn't regretting that decision.
Wondering what it was, Hiron slowly nodded. At least Hayate would take his advice and the boy was picking up Hiron's interest. First he had managed to found a way to neutralize a weakness to his nature release and now he had something else up his sleeve? Slowly shoving his hands into the pockets of his pants, Hiron decided to see what Hayate had more in store for him. ''I have some more time. What is it then?'' Hiron asked, with a neutral tone, some thoughts about more metal techniques crossing his mind. Though he hadn't really fought anybody or seen somebody fighting with such a release, so he was actually not sure what to expect.
Stepping forwards, Hayate began speaking "Most of my techniques against lightning users so far have been defensive as you've seen. But I want to have something that can be more offensive, something that I can use to negate the threat before having to defend against it. And so I have come up with something, an idea that I still have to try out. So, please forgive me if this proves not to do exactly what I hope it shall." With that, Hayate sunk into the earth using his Hiding Like a Mole Technique. He moved through the earth until he was underneath Hiron-sama. Making the necessary handseals, Hayate formed a number of metal shafts. He sent the shafts up in a circle around Hiron-sama. They would rise above the ground by about a foot, with abouth three feet still stuck underground. Hayate moved backwards and rose to the surface again. He then stood facing Hiron. "Now if you'd be okay with trying to make a lightning attack please do so." Hayate hoped that his technique would work.
If it did, what Hiron-sama would notice upon trying to form a lightning technique would be that the metal shafts in the earth around him would draw away the lightning, sending it into the ground and dissapating it. Hayate stared at Hiron expectantly, waiting to see the results.
A bit surprised by the shafts, Hiron had a hunch what they would do after seeing how Hayate had lessened the lightning hound's damage. Without moving a muscle, lightning crackled in the air. The lightning lashed around Hiron in a very violent manner, but Hiron frowned. Though the Chidori Current technique was working and would still paralyze or force somebody backwards, Hiron could feel the difference. It was like he had poured a little bit chakra instead of the usual amount. Slowly the lightning faded away as Hiron gained an amused look on his face. This was very interesting, he had to admit that. ''Who or what gave you this idea?'' Was Hiron's first question to Hayate about the last technique.
Hayate beamed. It had worked. He pondered Hiron's question briefly before answering. "I suppose that I got the idea from watching how lightning moves, and how lightning users attack with it. I know that my metal is a natural conductor and it draws lightning towards it. I remember when I was very young watching the storms; we had metal rods set up away from our homes that would draw the lightning away from our houses and into the rods. I thought that the same might work against a lightning user, but amplified up with more rods to scatter the lightning a little more." Hayate was very happy that his technique had worked, and even more happy that Hiron-sama seemed impressed. Hayate knew that he'd have to divulge the main weakness with this technique however, and he knew that Hiron had probably already noticed it.
"There is obviously a weakness with this technique though Hiron-sama. All the lightning user must do to escape the lightning is get far enough away from the rods. I do not quite have a way of keeping them there, nor do I know how to make it so that they do not see the rods, and thus do not realize the trap until it's already too late." Hayate cast his eyes downwards, sure that Hiron would be disappointed with him for creating a technique with such an obvious weakness.
His right hand had went to his chin, rubbing it as he listened to the answer of the young boy. Seemed that he was indeed a clever kid. To use such inspiration and pour it in a technique was something that wasn't seen often. Though Hiron had discovered the weakness, he noticed that Hayate had also beaten him to that. Even before he could explain why he would deem the technique to be used with care, Hayate already explained it. ''Seems you figured it already out, kid. Impressive.'' Hiron said on a polite tone. Shoving his right hand into the pocket of his pants, Hiron looked to the right, thinking about something.
''You managed to develop a jutsu and also to realize the weakness of it, without a flaw in your analyzement. Not many genins that I have seen working were capable of doing that.'' Looking back in Hayate's direction, Hiron nodded. ''Think that you might need to work something out, but you might want to think of help. You're a genin if I remember it alright. That means you will be placed in a team and work together. If somebody in your team can hold the enemy down, you could use your technique to neutralize them. If they are lightning users. Or maybe coming later up with how to discharge the rods?'' Hiron suggested as he had noticed that Hayate seemed to be unhappy about something. It was also the reaon why Hiron spoke with a polite tone instead of the usual neutral one.
Hearing Hiron's words and realizing that he wasn't disappointed, Hayate looked up. Instead of chastizing him, Hiron had decided to share some advice, and complemented Hayate on his technique. Hayate smiled, humbled by the man's kindness. "Thank you for your kind words Hiron-sama. I will indeed soon be given a new team, and I look forward to learning to work with them. I believe that you are right, that I can use the strenth of others to help me overcome the weakness in my own techniques. I only wish... I just wish I didn't always have to rely on others... If that makes any sense?" Hayate asked, feeling like he was once again being foolish. "I want to be strong enough to take care of myself and others without needing help." Hayate wasn't sure exactly where he was going with his train of thought, but he allowed himself to finish speaking before looking to Hiron, waiting to hear the man's response.
A bit surprised by the words of Hayate, Hiron stayed silent for a few moments. With his hands down in the pockets of his pants, the jounin looked at the young boy in front of him. The usual serious expression that was seen on Hiron's face was replaced with a more relaxing and calm one. ''Makes perfectly sense. As long you don't forget the people around you.'' Hiron replied back. A few memories were trying to slip up, but Hiron wasn't planning on thinking back to moments that were very similiar to this moment.
''To become stronger, you need to realize that you need to work for it yourself. Sure, you can ask others to help and guide you a bit, but you need to sweat and bleed for it. There is no shortcut of becoming really stronger.'' Hiron told Hayate. He sighed as he smiled. Lowering his head a bit, he pulled out his right hand out of his pocket and rubbed his neck. ''And believe me, I know that it really makes sense. My own protege has become tough through that way. Enough to surpass me already at this point. So if she can do it, I believe others have a shot too. It's just the trying you need to do. And of course working for it.''
Nodding his understanding, Hayate was glad that Hiron had not thought him to be foolish. Hayate was willing to put in the effort to become stronger, he was willing to do what was necessary. But Hiron-sama had a point. While becoming truly strong required a lot of independence, one also had to pay attention to those around them, and be able to rely on their strength in times of need. "I want to be able to do it myself Hiron-sama. I am willing to do whatever it takes, I just... I understand the importance of someone having your back, someone being there to help, but what about the times when I am alone? What about the times I have to watch my own back? I've been trying to find ways of defending myself, and these techniques that I've shown you so far are what I've managed to come up with. But it... It isn't enough, and I know that..." Hayate trailed off, not quite sure what else to say. Once again he felt like he was rambling, and he was doing it in front of a man he respected immensely. Hayate forced himself to look up and meet Hiron's eyes.
The questions of Hayate were understandable. Now the kid showed some difference to the conversation he had with Lilia, just before the day of the graduation. He, unlike her, had a little bit of less confidence. It did suited him in a way, making him somehow not annoying. It gave Hiron the idea that he should help the kid. ''The times when a person is alone... Depressed or down in the pit of worry and grim times... That is the time when a person can show their full potential. When you're alone, you can show who you really are. More when others are around. I don't tell you to seek it up, cause sometimes you will be beaten to your knees. And then it just takes other people to get out of it. That said, when you have bonds... You're never alone.'' Hiron told Hayate. He smiled a bit as he furred his eyebrows. ''As for recommending somebody? Seek out Kensuke Nimatsu. He uses Shadow Clones a lot in his fighting style, from what I have heard. Besides, he is one of the people that had been the students of the Sandaime Hokage. He is capable of helping you. Only up to you to convince him of helping you.'' Hiron replied.
Hiron's words hit Hayate hard. The man was truly wise, and Hayate found himself listening intently to every word. It was clear that Hiron-sama had been through a lot in his time, and he knew how to turn that into his teachings. 'Shadow Clones' Hayate had heard of the technique, and he had seen examples of it. It was truly versatile. Although he had not heard of Kensuke, Hayate felt that Hiron's advice would be a great thing to follow. "Thank you Hiron-sama. I want you to know that I appreciate your help. I know I'm not your student, and I have taken up much of your time. I will do everything I can to make your time worthwhile. I truly value your advice Hiron-sama, and while you may not admit it, you are truly wise." Hayate bowed his head respectfully. It was not a full bow, but it was a gesture of his respect and his admiration for the man. "I will seek out Kensuke Nimatsu, and I will see if he is willing to train me." Hayate had a goal now. He had something to aspire towards.
''No need to mention it, kid. Though, no need to bow or lower your head before me. I think I've told you that before, haven't I?'' Hiron said, though having an amused tone as he spoke back. He decided it wouldn't help to say he wasn't wise or earn that much respect. The last person he had told that, had even went down a path to show him more respect and try to earn his praise. ''He is the leader of Team 4. Quite a known person if you ask a bit around. Though, think it would be best if you keep my name out of it.'' Hiron said with a chuckle. He and Kensuke hadn't really came much together as friends or saw each other as people that could see each other as friends.
Hayate grinned. "I seem to remember you mentioning something of the sort before. It is my nature to show respect to those who deserve it." Hayate let out a small laugh before continuing. "I shall make sure not to mention you sent me, if you feel that would be best." Hayate hesitated, wanting to say more, but not sure what to say. He had already told Hiron how much he appreciated his help, and Hayate did not want to keep repeating himself and cause Hiron to become annoyed with him.
''Good. Well, guess I don't to wish you good luck. After all.'' Hiron turnd half around as he nodded to Hayate. ''You already showed that you're a clever kid. Take care.'' With that said, Hiron would turn around to walk away. He wondered how many genins would pop up like him. Seemed to him that Konoha was going to get a bright future if kids like that would one day take over his generations place and duty. He was sure of that.
At Hiron's words, Hayate smiled. He was honoured, and Hiron's compliment had humbled him. As Hiron turned and walked away, Hayate bowed once again. His smile grew, "I hope I can one day make you proud Hiron-sama." Hayate thought to himself. Hayate knew now what he would have to do to become stronger. He would seek out those of great skill and he would find a way to learn from them. He would learn his weaknesses and how to beat them. And he would take his weaknesses and turn them into his strength.
Hayate watched Hiron walk away and he felt it again, that fire inside him. Hayate was ready.

Hayate and Leo Complete a Mission Together!! Participants: Leo and Hayate Location: Konohagakure Timeline: Roughly 5 months Into the Timeskip Events: Leo and Hayate getting together and bonding while completing a mission. ====================================================================
Rubbing his fingers, trying to think of a plan, Leo would stare at the ginger cat that had a devious look in its eye. It had a smug look on its face as it turned to Leo with its mysterious jade green eyes. Leo would turn to Hayate's direction with one of his hands pressed on his own back. "This one seems like trouble Hayate, just look at her. She's got that teasing look, how do you think we should go about this, remember we can't use our jutsu either." Leo had tried to think of ways how to rescue this cat, but all of those ways included jutsu and the requirement was strict, the lady who gave them this annoying chore was observing them with curious, hard blue eyes. Hayate smiled, turning to look at Leo. The cat indeed looked like a troublemaker. "She does have a certain look about her doesn't she?" Hayate pondered for a moment, wondering how best to proceed. "How much trouble can one cat be though huh? Especially to two talented shinobi such as ourselves." He let out a little laugh. Normally he would use one of his techniques to speed up the process, but the lady had indeed been quite specific with her instructions, and Hayate did not want to upset her. Looking from the cat back to Leo, Hayate smiled again, "I think in this kind of situation it would be best for us to think like the enemy, no?" He waited calmly for Leo's reply, keeping his hands in the pockets of his long jacket. "There is only one talented Shinobi here, and his name is Hayate Hyuzu, the Genin who came back from war." He openly smiled and nodded. "Think like the enemy? How would we think like a cat". He thought of a man dressed in a cat costume doing what cats regularly do, such as bathing and sleeping and walking on all four; however the thought was unwelcoming and disturbing. Leo would try to approach the cat slowly, stretching his legs, he rubbed his 2 fingers making the scratching sound that a lot of cats liked. " Meow? Meow? Hayate I don't think its working." The cat eyes narrow, it looked like an offended facial expression as it hissed and turned its back on him , then started trotting. Leo's words took Hayate by surprise. Truth be told he was a little upset by the other boys doubt in himself. Hayate could recognize it however, and knew he had been just as humble about his own abilities when he started training. Thinking of the right words to say, Hayate spoke softly. "You were chosen to be a member of the Konoha Guardians Leo-san, and that is no small feat. We haven't had the pleasure of working together very much, but from what I have seen you have a lot of potential, and a lot of skill." Hayate smiled at the other boy, meaning each and every word. Seeing Leo approach the cat and meowing, Hayate could not help but to laugh. "I did not mean that we had to act like a cat Leo-san, just that we should learn to think like a cat. From what I've seen, cats like to be quite independent, and they don't do anything that they do not want to. So in order to catch this cat, we'll have to find out what it wants, and use that to our advantage." Hayate turned to the old lady standing and watching them. Smiling politely at her, Hayate asked, "What did you say the name of the cat was again ma'am?" The old woman's eyes narrowed, and Hayate noticed that her appearance was not unlike that of a cat. Surpressing the urge to laugh, Hayate waited for her response. Finally, speaking in a raspy voice that sounded much like the hissing of a cat, the old lady responded, "His name is Taka. And if you two harm one hair on his magnificent, silky coat I will not be paying for it!" Hayate simply waited for her to finish before politely saying, "You have our word that we will bring him back unharmed. Does Taka have any special places that he likes to go, or a favourite toy? Anything like that?" Hayate kept his tone polite, hoping that he could calm the lady into answering his question. "I'm paying you to get my cat back, not to keep bickering and questioning me boy!" The lady hissed again. She had made it quite clear that she was not a fan of the two boys, nor did she think they would be able to retrieve her cat. "Understood. Thank you for your time ma'am." Bowing his head ever so slightly, Hayate turned back to Leo, grinning. "Shall we get going then?"The words that Hayate voiced to Leo made him think quite a lot. He didn't want to look like he didn't appreciate his compliment because he more than appreciated, in fact he treasured it. All Leo could do is turn round and give a cheeky smile. "Taka? Like the bird, so he must be good at flying, or maybe the only cat that doesn't kill birds." The woman gave the Geninn an annoyed look, her snobby appearance that would give an impression that she is well off and very wealthy. It wasn't just that, but her clothe, even her body, the fat that layered it from good food brought with good pay. "Yeah, we better get moving." As the independent feline heard the voices of the human's plotting, it would start to pace itself until it would start to run, making its way into the market area of the village, leaping on stalls and onto the roofs of shops and houses. Leo noticed the cat starting to run, " Hayate we got a runner, we got to get the flying cat, lets go." Leo pointed to where the cat was a it was still in his vision, then would make a gesture to move. The lady that was disrespectful to the Geninn earlier would snort in disgust as she got out her posh feminine pipe and emptied some Tabaco into it while she would leave the work to the two special Genin. The grin still on his face, Hayate nodded to Leo and took off after the cat. He kept his speed a little slower at first so that Leo could catch up, and then he would increase his pace. Moving swiftly, Hayate headed in the direction that Leo had pointed. Turning his head towards Leo Hayate asked, "So, Leo, what do you think of our client?" He turned his head back, still sprinting forwards, and awaited Leo's reply. When asked about the client, Leo could only answer honestly about her. "So far she seems like a mean lady, but I bet its because Taka is causing trouble. But then maybe that's why Taka left, cause she was a mean old lady." He would catch up Hayate quite quickly, his own hood getting blown by back. That named Taka would continue the chase, but whenever the feline would get far, it would turn its head looking back for some reason. Regardless of the poor, light materials that merchants used for the roofs of the store, the cat never made a sound when landing, Its sharp hearing would be another advantage as it could hear the treads of the two Genin trying to approach it. Its ears twitched as it rested for a while, then went into a different direction, towards the training fields, its swiftly and effortlessly drifted past younger academy students practicing Taijutsu. "What about you Hayate, what do you think of Client? Do you know her?" Leo's face was filled with curiosity as he faced Hayate, and faced straight a head to look where he was going. He would be dropping deeper and deeper expecting Hayate to follow until they were on the ground ready to run. Watching as Leo caught up, Hayate smiled. The other boy was indeed agile and skilled, despite what he said about himself. Letting Leo lead the way, Hayate followed, keeping pace behind him. Leo's response to his question caused him to smirk. He had been thinking much the same thing. Upon hearing Leo's question, Hayate replied, "I do not know her directly Leo-san, but I know of her type. It is best to tread carefully around those like her. The faster and more efficiently we can finish the task, then the sooner we can be through with her as well." Hayate paused just long enough to look up and spot the cat again before speaking again. "Though this cat certainly does seem like it wants to stay away from its owner. Can't say I blame him. It's almost a shame that we have to bring him back." Hayate grinned at Leo, following the other boy down to the street level. Leo chuckled at Hayate's words The fact he said it would be a shame if the cat were to return. However this made Leo think deeply about animals, he wondered if they should be allowed as pets. "It is best to tread carefully you're right Hayate, this makes me glad to be doing this mission with you because the way you handled the lady was very well done, you managed to keep that calm aroma on you, and you kept your mouth pursed even when she was showing disrespect. One day someone will make one us simmer over, but for now we just got to keep neutral." Leo would notice the cat make its way to the training field, it was quick and agile like most cats, but this one seemed to lacking a bit of speed as it got to the fields. There was no time to use the entrance, so Leo would point out the high fence in front of them. "If you like I can give you a boost" Leo offered, as he would be preparing to the jump the high fence. Leo's compliment caused Hayate to smile. It had been a bit of a challenge to retain his calm while the old lady was chastising them, but he had managed. He nodded to Leo as the boy mentioned that they should remain neutral. As they approached the training fields, Hayate noticed the high fence that Leo pointed out. Smiling at him, Hayate picked up his speed. Looking back to Leo he spoke, "Thank you Leo, but a boost won't be necessary." Still grinning, Hayate turned back and leapt high into the air. He had timed it properly and was able to land atop the wall, releasing chakra from his feet to keep his balance better. Hayate turned briefly to see how Leo had fared. From what he had seen of Leo's skill he was certain the boy would make it. Leo gave an open smile to Hayate, it was just what he expected, and he expected no less. Leo would send his chakra to his feet and run up the fence, when he got half way would grip the gaps and pull himself over with ease. His chakra control wasn't great, but he saw a little improvement. He would see the cat sprint and smoothly dodge the projectiles that were being thrown for training exercises. "Hey Hayate, you still got that net right? The one we picked up before the mission, I think we might have to put it to use soon." Hayate simply nodded in reply. His hand moved automatically to touch the net that he'd strapped around his right shoulder. Feeling it still there he smiled. "I believe you may be right. That cat sure can move huh, Leo-san?" Hayate admired how the cat moved as it sped in between the projectiles and made its way across the field. There was just something impressive about it. Hayate turned his eyes back to Leo, waiting for the boy's response. "Maybe it is a gentleman cat, hmm but do gentlemen run away from other men?" Leo confused himself for minute, lost in a world of thought, but it would soon vanish as he noticed the net. The cat was fast, so running wouldn't solve it. Leo would take out his big Fuma shuriken, one of the weapons he adored more than his others. He smiled at Hayate, then it the smile would turn into a grin. The sharp corners sparked with shine as it hit the sun's gaze. " When I say go you go in with the net ok Hayate?" The Fuma shurkien had pepper spray attached to the bottom of it, strings kept the lid on. Leo would turn a full 360 and throw the Shuriken, the string looped around his middle finger. "Alright Hayate go" The shuriken would pass the cat, and come back, above it, Leo would pull his middle finger releasing the spray above the cat, leaving it at a stand still. Without a moments pause, Hayate leapt from his perch. In one smooth motion he landed, unwrapped the net from his shoulder and charged forwards towards the cat. Dodging through the field, Hayate swiftly made his way to the animal. The cat was fast, but so was Hayate. As Leo's shuriken passed over the cat and released the spray, Hayate surged forwards and tossed the net. He held back briefly, allowing the spray to settle before moving to see if the trap had been successful. Once it had cleared, Hayate leapt forward to grab the net, and hopefully the cat with it. The net expanded on different parts, the hissing and moaning of the cat could be heard, due to the cat's negative reaction. The cat held an angry expression on its face, its little game was up and the mission was a success. Leo would walk over to pick up his Fuma shuriken off the ground. He giwould then extend his fist and give a thumbs up to Hayate, followed with a large smile. " You did great Hayate, you move very quick too. I actually enjoyed this mission with you" His words sparkled with honesty, regardless of the troublesome cat and impolite lady, Leo enjoyed it and it turned out to boost his team work ability. Extending his right fist to his partner, he would wait for touch, and suggest the go see the wealthy woman to complete their mission. Smiling brightly, Hayate returned the fist bump. He picked up the net delicately, making sure not to harm he cat. Leo's compliment made him blush briefly. "I quite enjoyed it as well, Leo-san." Upon Leo's suggestion to return to the woman, Hayate simply nodded, and the two turned to head back to the old woman. It was time to collect their pay. The two Genin would come the woman with her domestic pet in a net for catching enemies. Leo would smile gently. " We caught your cat ma'am, it was kind of tricky but we managed to do it in the end. There is no harm on him." Leo said proudly as he felt that both of them had achieved something. The woman would grab the net of Hayate in rude and desperate manner, when the net opened they all would hear a meow and woman would melt with affection. "Oh my lovely Taka, my sweet Taka, did they do bad things to you, its ok mommy is here now, don't run away again please dear." He was like an auto switch, a bad mannered snobby lady, transformed into a caring worried mother. The cat's expression remained the same as before, grumpy, tired, even frustrated look on its face, until the woman would pause in shock. Holding the cat in front of her the two Genin would see a square patch of fur missing of the cat. Leo's eyes widened in worry, "Maybe I my shuriken didn't miss, dam it I cant believe this." He was in thought, but the lady would soon kick him out of it with her loud voice. Complaining about how both of them are animal abusers, and clumsy. Leo would have his head down in shame entire time, while the cat would simply flash a grin and quickly turn back round. " I'm sorry ma'am, it was my fault. I guess I must of played a bit too rough." For a moment Hayate shared in Leo's doubts. He thought that maybe it was he himself that pulled the cat's hair out when he was throwing the net on it, and he was about to say that when his sharp eyes caught something. As the woman continued her yelling, berating them for hurting her precious cat, Hayate ignored her, focused entirely on what he had seen. Reaching one hand out to Leo, Hayate placed the hand on his shoulder to calm him. He waited for the woman to pause to catch her breath before speaking very softly. "Ma'am, I can ensure that we did not harm your cat. I checked him before we brought him to you, and there were no marks on him, and no hair was missing." As expected, no sooner had the words come out of his mouth, then the woman began screaming at them again. "You two aren't only abusive to animals! You're also filthy liars! There is no way I am going to pay you for this!" The woman's voice was shrill with anger, and Hayate waited calmly for her to finish. "As I was explaining ma'am, the damage to your cat did not come from us. So I am afraid that we will still have to ask for payment. I would be happy to explain what caused this damage for you if you would like?" As Hayate finished speaking, the woman's eyes lit up with a burning fire. Had she been capable, Hayate was sure she would have used those very eyes to burn holes into the back of his head. Thrusting the cat towards Hayate, the woman screamed at him once more. "You think you can explain to me how my precious Taka got harmed!? I'll tell you how! You two pests call yourselves ninja but you're really just cruel little animal abusers! You will never make it as ninja! I'll make sure of it!"At the woman's comments, Hayate almost lost his patience. Almost. Regaining his composure, Hayate looked the woman dead in the eyes. "I understand your concern, but I would appreciate it very much if you were to calm down. Ma'am, if you'd be so kind as to take a look at your hand, the one with the ring on it, I think you will see what I was going to say." Hayate gestured briefly to her hand, and the woman's eyes followed. Watching the realization dawn on her face was enough satisfaction to make up for the woman's cruel comments. Her face fell as the old woman saw what Hayate had pointed out. Beneath her ring was a small tuft of the cat's fur that had been torn out in her haste to remove the cat from the net. Sputtering, the woman tried to regain her composure. Quickly pulling the cat back, she started stroking him quickly, whispering words of comfort to him. Looking up at the two boys she glared once again. "You two troublemakers must have tricked me somehow. Here, take your money and begone with you!" With that, the old woman tossed them their payment, turned on her heel and swiftly left. Smiling briefly as the woman walked away, Hayate turned to Leo. "It was a pleasure working with you Leo-san. You are truly quite skilled." He nodded his respect to the other boy, and reached out his fist. Smiling, Hayate waited to see if Leo would return the fist bump. Thinking about what the woman did made Leo confused, he wondered why people would do such things to people who help one another, the compliment from Hayate was indeed enough to make him stop thinking about it as Leo would return with a over dramatic fist bump and gesture an explosion. " Your skills are also very impressive to Hayate, I have a feeling we will be working together more in the future. Lets go to Azumi, get some training done." The two would leave to the place where guardians shinobi sleep and train, striving to become stronger.

Hayate Hyūzu and Hiron Hon:
Seeking Advice From a Mentor Place : Konohagakure, Hiron's Home Characters : Hayate and Hiron Time : After Lilia leaves. Plot : Hayate asks Hiron how to stop Lilia from leaving, and the two have a serious discussion. ================================================================
Hayate found himself walking towards Hiron's house. It was still very early, and there were not many people around. The air was cold, but Hayate could not feel it biting into his skin. He was still numb. Numb from his talk with Lilia, numb to the thought that he might lose her. He wasn't sure what was causing him to walk in this direction, but he thought it was better than any other. As he neared Hiron's home he paused. The emotions came crashing back as he realized everything at once. Lilia was leaving. Hayate knew now why he had chosen this direction. He would go to Hiron, the only other man Hayate thought would be capable of stopping Lilia, of bringing her back. Hayate steeled himself and approached Hiron's door. Standing on the steps in front of the door, he hesitated, only momentarily. It was still quite early and he didn't want to wake the man. Hayate thought once again of Lilia and made up his mind. Reaching out he knocked sharply on the door. Now to see if he is awake. The door opened as Hiron stood in his casual clothes. It was basically his jounin atire, without the flak jacket, headband and such. Looking a bit surprised at Hayate, Hiron rubbed his chin with his right hand. With a soft voice, he greeted the boy. ''Morning. Can I help you, kid?'' Hiron asked, still frowning as he waited for Hayate's answer. Both Keiko and Aimi were still sleeping and he had been early up to prepare some breakfast. He had two days free after all. Seeing Hiron open the door, Hayate paused, he hadn't thought this far ahead... What was he going to say to the man? Steeling himself, he met Hiron's gaze. His eyes were ringed red from his emotional goodbye with Lilia and right now he didn't care if Hiron noticed. "Why? Why did you let her go?" Was all he managed to let out. Hayate spoke quietly but the pain, and anger was clear in his voice. Slowly the frown lowered as Hiron closed the door behind him. He looked with a calm expression at Hayate. Slowly, the man shoved his hands into the pockets of his pants. ''Come with me.'' He told Hayate as he started to walk in a calm pace. With nothing left to do, Hayate turned and followed Hiron. He did not know what else to say, nor did he know what Hiron had planned. But at least... at least he was doing something. Anything. Hayate couldn't just sit around anymore, he had to act. He had to find a way to stop Lilia from leaving, at least, he had to stop her from leaving by herself. ''Your question was why I let her go? Let me tell you something.'' Hiron told Hayate. There were no people at this time on the street. How long was she gone by now? No, she would leave in the night. Hiron glanced at the boy for a brief moment. ''Last time, Lilia went alone to seek out a Swordsman of the Mist. I tried to stop her. I seriously tried. It resulted in our first argument...'' Hiron told Hayate. He sighed as he heard the argument back in his mind. Faintly, but still there. ''I was so sure that I had lost that precious... I was so afraid, but against all the odds, Lilia survived. She became stronger. She didn't show the world that she was somebody to reckon with. She showed me that she was able to protect herself. That she could face odds most can't. I disagree with her choice, but the truth is. I can't stop her. Besides, she does this for others.'' Hiron became silent as he kept walking in the relaxed pace. Hearing Hiron speak, Hayate pondered the words carefully. "I meant no disrespect to either you or Lilia-sama, Hiron-sama. And please believe me when I say I understand just how strong Lilia is. But... But this time she is leaving, expecting that she won't make it back. I... I can't just let her leave like that. She doesn't sound like she is willing to fight with that same drive that she had before, with that same conviction. She just seemed like she was accepting that she would lose... that she'd... die." A few small tears of frustration leaked out of Hayate's eyes and he struggled briefly. "I can't let her accept that Hiron-sama. I just can't. Lilia-sama means the world to me, and I know she means that to you as well. But I cannot let her go alone. Not if she thinks she is going to die. And not if I can do anything to help. I know you think I might just get in the way, but I know how to stay out of the way, please understand that. I can help her Hiron-sama. But I can't just sit by... I can't just let her go..."''And you think that she will let you help? She made it clear she does this to help everybody. To protect us. If we intervere, it means she still hasn't protect us like she wanted. I am against it as well, but I need to respect her choices. Besides, we're shinobi. Death is always a factor that is present. No matter if your strong or weak.'' Hiron responded. He could understand Hayate's pain, but he knew better. Trying to hold back Lilia wouldn't help. It would result that the girl would turn bitter or else worse. She would hurt others that she wanted to protect. Hiron sighed. It was a complicated situation. ''Lilia has changed... After Jinkama's dead she has changed. Becoming colder and more serious in her goals. I fear that if we try to hold her back, that it can result that she might turn bitter too. You're both young, but need to understand that sometimes that people need to chose their own choices. Even if it means that they won't come back.'' "I would never think to hold Lilia-sama back. I.. I'm not even sure that's a feat I'd be capable of." Hayate struggled to try and find the right words to respond with. He understood what Hiron was saying, but that didn't mean he had to accept it. And he needed Hiron to listen. Finally, Hayate spoke. "You of all people understand just how important Lilia-sama is to this village. How can she possibly be protecting us if she is gone? What does she think she's protecting us from? Hiron-sama, you know that I have experienced loss as well, and you were the one I came to when I needed help understanding that loss. I understand that as shinobi we must learn to accept death, and I am willing to do that. But also as shinobi it is our duty to protect those that we care about. I know that Lilia-sama may think she is going to protect us by giving her life, but that will not actually help! I truly believe that Lilia-sama has the potential to become the Hokage one day, and I truly believe that she should. She once told me that she believed the Hokage to be the shield, the person who is most capable of defending those in the village from harm. I believe she was right, and I believe that she can become that person for this village. But she cannot do that if she is gone. Please Hiron-sama, if you will not stop her then let me go with her. Let me help her. I accept that death is a part of being a shinobi, so let me take her place. You and I both know that Lilia-sama is more valuable to this village than I am, and I am more than willing to lay my life on the line to bring her back. I can do this Hiron-sama. I will not interfere. I go only to help." Hayate pleaded his case to Hiron, hoping that the man would hear his words. Hiron took the words in, thinking about them as they walked. The young man sighed as he rubbed his chin. There was a long pauze of silence as the jounin was thinking about a reply. Finally, Hiron spoke, but it sounded like he was tired. Tired of something. ''You have some points, kid. But the fact you think your life is less worth than hers is wrong. Not because she is a jinchuriki or has great potential makes her life more worth than yours or mine. Every person in this village is important. Its because of that Lilia heads out... I know its hard, but think about it. We can't force her. She has proven already that she is more capable in combat than even some jounins. She has a great willpower, being able to surpass several things I or most never would be able to take. And I am not sure if we can help. Sometimes, you can't help somebody, kid. Sometimes, all you can do is brace yourself.'' Hiron said. He sighed and lightly shook his head. ''This is why I keep telling you I am not a wise person. I know you want to chase after her and so would I, if it weren't for my newborn daughter. I advise you to think about my words and wait. No matter how hard it is, but wait. I made the mistake last time to think she wouldn't come back, but she will. It's Lilia, kid.'' Hiron's words tore Hayate in two. A part of him could not help but to understand and accept the man's words, but an even bigger part of him still refused. Hiron's logic was hard to refute, but Hayate was not thinking with logic. He was thinking with his heart far more than his head. And it was his passion that drove him to continue, "A shinobi should never let fear stop him from completing his duty. I cannot and will not allow myself to let someone that I care about face something like this alone. Even if I am not certain of whether or not I can truly help, I know enough of my skill to know that I would also not get in the way. Please Hiron-sama, I understand your reasons. Please understand mine. I have to go, I know that I will not be able to change Lilia-sama's mind, and I would never hope to. But I can be there to help. I can make her see that sacrificing herself will not truly protect us." Hayate clenched his fists, trying to calm himself. He let out a brief sigh, meeting Hiron's eyes once more. "I do not doubt her skills Hiron-sama. I would never do that. But I do doubt her heart, and her faith in herself. One who goes into this sort of fight without thinking they will make it out alive, will never truly make it back. I can make her believe in herself again Hiron-sama. Even if that is all I am able to accompish it will be worth it. She once told me that she no longer believed in heroes. That those who sacrificed her lives for the good of others are foolish and only end up causing pain and suffering. I... am the one who told her that this world will always have heroes, and will always need them. I told her that she was a hero, and that she was the most selfless person I know. While I am not stupid enough to think that it was my words that made her go, you can understand how I have to correct it. Things changed after Jinkama-sama's passing. I could see the difference in her, and I tried to help her back to herself."Hayate paused again, fighting against the tears of frustration that once again threatened to spill across his face. "I... I failed in that Hiron-sama. I did not have enough time. And I need to fix that. I know just how stubborn Lilia-sama is, and I know how hard it is to change her mind. But I can help her. I know that I can make her believe in herself again. I can give her that spark that she so effortlessly gives to everyone else. As I said before Hiron-sama, even if that's all I manage to do, I think it will be enough. I know you are right when you place your faith in Lilia-sama. And I would place all of my faith in her as well. But I can't operate on faith alone when I know she has none in herself. Hiron-sama I respect you more than you could possibly know, and I respect Lilia-sama just as much. So please understand that I seek your blessing to go and help her. But know that I am going to do whatever it takes to make sure she comes back... Even if that means that I go without your blessing. Even if it means that I lose respect in your eyes. For that I am sorry." Hayate steeled himself for Hiron's reply. He respected the man more than words could describe, but his feelings for Lilia overcame that. Hiron stayed quiet as he stopped walking. While Hayate spoke, Hiron simply listened. He listened and kept looking at the boy. After Hayate was done talking, Hiron sighed as he lowered his head a bit, closing his eyes. His right hand traveled to his face, making him look like he was older and tired. ''Lilia has gone through some troubles indeed and has changed. For the better or the worse. Even I am not enterily sure about that. Know that you won't gain my disrespect for doing what you think is right. I understand you deem Lilia as a friend and are willing to go after her. That is what friends are supposed to do. To back each other up. I however can't give you my blessing either as I think nobody should try to meddle in this right now.'' Hiron looked up and seemed to be worried. ''I think you need to ask yourself if you want to do this to make her stay because you want it or because its better for her. Keep in mind that Lilia knows things you may be unaware of. That there are factors that made and pushed her to take this option. When you will make your decision, please keep that in mind, kid. I am afraid I can't help you this time.'' Hiron told Hayate. Nodding slowly, Hayate once again was torn. Hiron's words made great sense. And Hayate knew that he was right. But, he had his answer, and Hayate knew that he wasn't going to change Hiron's mind. Thinking deeply on Hiron's question Hayate paused. Looking down he tried to think of how best to respond. Before he even had a chance to think, however, he knew what the right answer was, what the honest answer was. Meeting Hiron's gaze again, Hayate's mouth curled up slightly in a tiny, sad smile. "It's both. I... I will not deny that I want her to stay, but I know that I will not change her mind with that. And so I only wish to give her the will to make it through this, and help her to return if I can. Nobody truly wants to die Hiron-sama, and Lilia-kun can do so much good in this world. I know that all she has ever really wanted to do is protect people, and to keep them safe. I can empathize with that goal. And that is why I need to make sure she comes back. For better or for worse, this village needs her... I need her. And she is strong enough to overcome almost anything. But as you said, it is my duty to back her up. It is my duty to make sure that she makes it through this. And I know you are more than right when you say that there are many things that I do not know, and could not possibly understand. I accept that. But I will do everything that I can to make sure that she comes back from this." He hoped that Hiron fully understood his intentions now. He had no desire to stop Lilia, but Hayate could not just let her go without being there for her. ''If you think that is a reason good enough for you, then I doubt my blessing would even be needed, kid. Just make sure that you don't push it too hard. I have raised Lilia as my own and lets say..'' Hiron was trying to find the correct term for it. He wavered, but decided to just say it. ''Just make sure you don't anger her too much. I fear that with my teachings and Keiko's influence, she won't be really happy to see somebody trying to come with her. Not after she said she would go alone. If she tells you to back off, then please consider that. I would hate to hear or find you be broken down because you didn't give up.'' Hiron advised the boy. He wondered if Hayate would drop if Lilia would command to do that. Seeing and hearing Hayate made it clear to Hiron that he was intending to stick with her to the bitter end. His only hope was that it wouldn't be his end at her ends. That would go very wrong. Bowing his head briefly, and respectfully, Hayate replied. "I understand Hiron-sama. I have seen that anger and I believe you are correct. But I can take care of myself. Despite appearances, I can handle myself in a fight. I know that's not saying much against Lilia-sama, but if it came down to that, which I sincerely hope it doesn't, you don't have to worry about me. But thank you Hiron-sama. I appreciate you talking with me and... I apologize for my behaviour. I just can't sit around doing nothing when she's trying to go out there alone..." Hiron nodded as he then grinned. ''If it weren't for my wife and newborn child, I would've done likely the same. Maybe worse, but I sadly can't. Just don't worry about my opinion, kid. Its already high enough that I consider this not a waste of my time. Be careful and remember. Don't indulge too far. If you get told to back off, do so.'' Hiron advised Hayate. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he doubted the boy would listen to that advise. But he felt the need to say it again. At least then Hayate could never blame anybody of warning that he could get beaten up. Shoving his right hand back into the pockets of his pants, Hiron thought about it. ''She is going to leave this night. If you're going to try to follow her, then you have at least the time of her leaving.'' Seeing Hiron smile, a sense of relief flooded through Hayate. He allowed himself a small genuine smile as well. "Then I shall do this for us both Hiron-sama. And I do appreciate the advice. I will do what I can." The fact that Hiron had taken the time, once again, to listen to Hayate meant the world to him. He didn't properly know how to let Hiron know how much he appreciated it but then again, knowing Hiron, Hayate wasn't sure he'd have to. Hearing Hiron speak again, Hayate's smile grew. "You are right, Hiron-sama. This gives me time to prepare. I do not wish her to know that I am following her until it is too late for her to simply send me back. Though I am familiar with stealth, and consider it one of my stronger suits, she does have Samehada. I have sparred with her enough to know the thing is very good at detecting chakra. Any suggestions for getting past that sword's detection?"Thinking about the question, Hiron shook his head. ''Not really. Even without Samehada, there is no way you can halt her without staying on a long range. Every closed ranged fighter needs to deal with the Silent Shocking Technique. If you can't counter the invisible lightning, there is no need to think about the shark sword. Because then you won't be able to restrain her. Besides, you're an Earth Release user. Something she usually beats quite easy. Though,'' He thought. ''The shark blade lowers her speed. Not that great as her training have increased her speed, but it could give you an advantage. The moment she will place the sword down. Be on guard. As that dreadful blade can move on his own and on her commands. Which are usually whistles. I doubt you really have a shot, but keep those things in mind when dealing with her.'' He told Hayate. A small grin grew on Hayate's face while Hiron spoke. "I have countered her invisible lightning before, and I believe I could do so again. As I've said though, I have no wish to fight her. I would much rather join her, and help her with whatever she is up against. Thank you for the information about Samehada though, it is not a weapon that she has used much in our training." Hayate paused, "If it comes down to it however, I believe I can hold my own against her. At least for a time. I have done so before, and I know how she fights. That being said, Lilia-sama is definitely full of surprises. So I will have to be careful.Hiron wasn't sure how he should respond to it. He had been training Lilia all this time. He thought he had know every secret, every tactic of hers and such. But when she had challenged him, she had kept surprising him. If there was one fact that nobody could deny, it was that Lilia was always full of surprises. ''I don't want to say you dont stand a chance, but know that you're still at genin level. Lilia has managed to beat S ranked foes. Keep facts like that in mind. Even courage can't always win of experience... Then again, she is the proof it can be the winning factor. Just don't try to push it too far. I seriously don't want to hear one of you get hurt or something down that line.'' He told Hayate, glancing with a serious look. Nodding his understanding, Hayate thought about what Hiron had said. It was true, he was still just a genin, and Lilia was truly at another level. But he had been training under her for quite some time, and that training had proved itself in his growth. He had also taken Hiron's advise and seeked out other people to train him, people of a much higher skill than Hayate's own. "I appreciate your concern Hiron-sama, I truly do. I also do not wish that upon myself, but right now I am more concerned with Lilia, and more concerned with bringing her back. If I have to put my own health at risk to ensure she makes it back, then I will not hesitate to do so. I will not let her come to harm under my own hand either, not that I could even necessarily do so, but I assure you that I will not harm Lilia." Hayate's tone was also quite serious as he responded to Hiron, metting his gaze. For a moment, Hiron said nothing back. He kept his gaze focused on Hayate. Then he slowly nodded. ''She is my daugther and I think that we've been clear enough now, kid. You have some time to prepare before the sun will go down. If I may suggest something..'' He half turned around as he looked up briefly. He was considering something clearly. Then he spoke again, after a moment of silence. ''Lilia has the tendency to sometimes focus too much on something. I am not sure if that is still the case as it has been some time since she has proven herself to be able to mettle against me.. But maybe it can be something that you can use.'' Another small smile touched Hayate's lips as Hiron offered his advice. Bowing his head in respect, Hayate spoke. "I do not quite know how to thank you Hiron-sama. You have always been patient with me and for that I owe you more than I could ever say. Thank you for your advice, it will be of great help. Please know Hiron-sama, that I will do everything in my power to make sure your daughter comes back from this. I will not let you down, I will not let her down..." Hayate raised his head and locked eyes with Hiron as he spoke the last part. His determination was clear in his voice. He waited only to see if Hiron would respond, and then Hayate would leave to prepare for the evening. ''Don't be too rash with making such promises, kid. First try to do your best and also get out alive. If she will back you off and there will be some struggle, try to not press her. Lilia is kind, but she has gained some influence from my wife. And I am honest if I tell you that its not something you want to experience. Take care and don't get your hopes up too high.'' Hiron told Hayate before turning around and walk away home. He hummed a tune while he walked, thinking about the talk he just had with Hayate. Despite his doubts for the future, Hayate could not help but smile a Hiron walked away. He had a goal now, he had something to do. Hayate bowed once again to Hiron's back, "I will bring her back." He silently promised. With that, Hayate turned and made his way back to his own residence. It was time to prepare. If he hoped to convince Lilia-sama he was going to need to give it everything he had.

A talk, Love can lead to hatred, Hatred to evil.
Timeline: 14 Months Into the Timeskip
A collab between Chromehound and Gerontis Summary :Hayate and Hiron having a talk about the romantic relationship he is starting to have with Kiyomi. Hayate only learns that love between shinobi isn't always that bright or cherished as in most tales.
Walking down the street that had become so familiar these past few months, Hayate found himself wondering if he was making the right decision. His hands were stuffed in his pockets, a habit he usually only practiced while deep in thought. Turning onto the path that lead to the house that was his destination, Hayate hesitated. Staring at the door a few feet in front of him, the distance suddenly seemed much further. Shaking the thought out of his head, Hayate stepped forwards and knocked on the door.
Opening the door, Hiron was dressed in a rather casual manner. Seeing Hayate, the man didn't seem to be surprised. As if he had expected him, but that wasn't true. ''Good day, kid. How are you?'' Hiron greeted Hayate. Leaning against the door post, the man smiled briefly as he didn't mind to be bothered by Hayate on his free day. If there were a few genins Hiron respected or liked, it was Hayate. And for several reasons.
Looking up at the man in front of him, Hayate felt a momentary twinge of panic. For a split second, he forgot how to speak, wondering what to say. Then, realizing how much he must look like a fool at the moment, Hayate quickly smiled. "Hello Hiron-sama. It is good to see you as always. I am doing well thank you, and yourself? I hope I haven't come at a bad time." His tone was cheerful, but there was still some hesitance in his voice. Hayate hoped that Hiron would not notice, as he did not want to start off on a bad note with the man he respected so much.
''I am doing well.'' Hiron said. He then rubbed his chin as he took a step backwards. ''If you want, you may come in.'' Hiron already turned around. Knowing that Keiko was spending the day with Aimi outside, likely being in the park or such, he had the whole house alone for some hours. Something he didn't mind that much. Spending some time alone was something he liked, more than to be surrounded by people all the time.
Pausing at the door, Hayate decided to take up Hiron on his offer. “Thank you Hiron-sama. I don’t want to take up too much of your time, I was… I was just hoping that we might be able to talk for a moment or two. Only if you are free of course.” Cursing his nerves, Hayate hoped he would have the courage to say what he had come to talk about.
''I have the day off, so I have time plenty. Would you close the door behind you?'' Hiron asked, before he would already be out of the hall, walking towards the kitchen. Scratching the back of his head, he walked through the living room, entering the kitchen. ''What would you has a drink, kid?'' Hiron called out, already searching for two glasses. Like usual, he would want to go for sake. But instead of sake, he would just go for some fruit juice. It was after all time that he and Keiko were going to drink less alcohol.
Following Hiron into the house, Hayate closed the door behind him. He walked up to the entrance of the kitchen, standing just outside of it. ”I am okay with water Hiron-sama. I do not wish to be a bother.” Coming out of the kitchen, Hiron shook his head lightly. ''Here is your water and don't worry. If you were a bother, I wouldn't have let you in. Take a seat.'' Settling himself on the couch, Hiron placed his glas on the low table. ''Now, what is it that you wanted to talk about?'' Hiron asked in a polite manner.
Taking his water, Hayate nodded his thanks. He walked up to the couches and stood awkwardly before finally sitting and clasping his hands to stop them from fidgeting. As Hiron asked what he wanted to talk about, Hayate blushed briefly. ”I uh… I came here to talk to you about something… something personal.” He looked away for a moment, unable to meet Hiron’s eyes. ”I know that I shouldn’t be bothering you with personal matters. But… this is something that I feel is important… And I feel like it is only right to talk to you about it.”
Leaning back, Hiron was wondering what it was. Last time they had talked, it was about trying to hold back Lilia. Something he had a different view on. Actually, he had never asked or found out how that had ended. But seeing he was in one piece and Kiyomi was also alive, he didn't need to know. ''Take it easy. Like last times, I am taking you serious, but don't push yourself.'' Hiron said, picking up his glas to take a sip.
Nodding his head, Hayate remained quiet. He wanted to ensure that his next words were chosen carefully. "Last time I came to talk to you Hiron-sama, it was to get advice on stopping Lilia from leaving... I know that at the time I was incredibly stubborn, and set in my desire to bring her back. I want to apoloize to you for not fully listening to what you had to say. But I want you to know that your words did help." Looking straight at Hiron, Hayate's tone grew very serious. "I want you to know how much your word means to me Hiron-sama. I... I look up to you, and I know that you do not need another burden, I just want you to know that your opinion means the world to me." He paused for a moment, hoping that he didn't sound too much like he was rambling. Hayate's brain was having a difficult time bringing everything back to the point, but he knew he was close.
Glad to hear his words had helped, Hiron stayed silent until Hayate paused. Hiron understood that the subject wasn't going to be the last discussion they had together. It seemed it was all okay and not really something that he would need to discuss again with Hayate. ''I am glad to be of help, kid.'' Hiron said, nodding. Somehow, Hiron was getting more and more curious on what Hayate was going to say. But he was patient and pushing the boy to telling him what was troubling him or what he wanted to talk about wouldn't help.
Smiling slightly, Hayate felt a little relieved that so far Hiron seemed like he still wanted to listen. "Back then... when I tried to stop Lilia from leaving, I was in many ways being selfish. I know that now... A fair bit has happened since Kiyomi came back, since she became a jounin and I was placed on her team. I am happy that when I tried to stop her from leaving, it didn't cause a rift between us as you had feared. In fact, in some ways I think it almost strengthened our bond..." His words grew a little more cautious now, and he took his time before speaking again. "We have been able to spend more time together since she returned, and we have grown closer... I..." Forcing himself to lock eyes with the man he admired so much, Hayate felt afraid in this moment. "I have grown to realize that I care for your daughter very much... Much more than I ever thought possible. Hiron-sama, I... I respect you too much to keep this hidden from you, and I feel that you deserve to know. At first I tried to keep my feelings hidden, as I did not want to interfere with her goals, or compromise her future in any way. I know that I am merely a genin, and I can be a burden... I want nothing less than the best for Kiyomi.
Pausing, he took a breath. "It wasn't until very recently that she told me that she has feelings for me as well... We discussed things, trying to find the best course of action, and we decided that it would be best if we kept things between us, at least for the moment... But I cannot keep this from you Hiron-sama. I... I do not think I am capable of lying to you, or of hiding things from you. And, as I have said, you deserve to know..." As much as he wanted to break eye contact, to look away in fear, Hayate managed to control the urge.
That was quite something he said. Hiron remained silent for several more moments, calmly placing his glass on the low table while remaining leaned forward. A sigh was the first sound he produced. ''So it seems. Well, I am glad that you're still being open and honest to me. I am very grateful to have your trust and respect, Hayate.'' Hiron said, sounding actually happy. Only a serious expression replaced the happy one. ''But I do need to say that I am also worried. Both of us know that Kiyomi has responbilities. Not just anymore as a kunoichi to the Leaf, but seeing she is the host of the Two Tails..'' Hiron paused, aware that Hayate likely had expected this. ''I too want the best for her. That is why I will say that neither of you can bring this in the open. I will also warn the higher ups of this, as this is a delicate manner that needs to be treated with caution.'' Hiron informed Hayate. Pausing, he then sighed again.
''I am glad however it is you that turns up to be her first boyfriend. I already like and respect you well enough. So I will try my best to see if some solution can be found for it and will keep my mouth shut on it as well. Though you must realize that you need to keep following any given plan, to keep Kiyomi safe. Understood?'' Hiron asked, already preparing in case Hayate wouldn't.
Blinking rapidly, Hayate wasn't sure what to say. The sheer fact alone that Hiron hadn't leapt forwards and slit his throat was still a surprise to him, but Hiron's words had silenced him. He... he approved?" Hayate had been so afraid of disappinting Hiron, of letting the man down, that he hadn't even considered that Hiron might actually be happy for them. Nodding his head in response to the jounin, Hayate pondered what to say. "I would never do anything that would put Kiyomi in danger Hiron-sama. And I understand that we must keep this a secret. I...I just could not keep it a secret from you." Looking down at the ground, Hayate was quiet for a moment.
"I want you to know that I care about your daughter more than the air I breathe, Hiron-sama. And I can also understand just how much you care about her as well. You... you have been like a father to me these past few months Hiron... You have been there for me in the times where I have needed guidance the most, and I can not thank you enough for that. It makes me happier than you could possibly know to hear that you are okay with Kiyomi and I being together. Please know that I would never do anything to compromise the respect that I have earned from you and her. I care far too much about both of you to ever do that. I just... I am sorry Hiron-sama. I... I have probably made things very difficult now, and that is the last thing I ever wanted to do." Hayate's mind was a jumble at the moment, and his words were probably coming out as a mess. He only hoped that Hiron understood what he was saying.
He looked amused when Hayate confessed what he all felt for Kiyomi. To think that the boy had so much affection for Kiyomi. It was heart warming and amusing. ''''It is also the best for you to keep it quiet. Keiko will not like it, I assume.'' Becoming serious again, he thought. ''''The situation isn't that difficult because of you. It is mostly because Kiyomi is the host of the Nibi. For that reasons it will be best to keep this silenced. There are always people who have some kind of interest in the Bijuu. That and we must be honest. It is always better to not take a risk with a Bijuu.'' Hiron further explained. Sighing, this was going to be kind of a drag. It meant that he would need to report this to the Hokage and hopefully a solution or some protection could be found. Denying this relationship or forbid the two to see each other wouldn't help. Hiron already was aware by now that the two wouldn't accept such a measure.
After listening carefully to Hiron's words, Hayate finally nodded. He didn't like to think of Kiyomi as being a risk, regardless of whether or not she was the host of the two-tails. Though he did not know much about the beast, Hayate knew enough to know that the Nibi had protected Kiyomi when she needed it, and for that reason alone he considered it to be a force for good. He had heard the stories of course, the stories of rampaging beasts causing devastation and carnage wherever they passed. But Hayate could never see Kiyomi, or the beast inside her, causing such devastation. Perhaps they were right, perhaps he was naive. Locking eyes with Hiron, Hayate finally spoke. "I... I understand Hiron-sama. At least I think I do."
''''Good. Keep it down then. Though, I need to ask. Why me, Hayate?'' Hiron asked. The man had a hunch why, but he wasn't still sure. He had some faith in Hayate that he could achieve something that so far not many had been able. To truly make Kiyomi smile. Maybe this could be a turn in his daughter's life. The continous revelation of secrets made Hiron worry that she was heading a way that nobody would like her to walk. '']''You don't have to explain if you don't want to though.'' Hiron added, making clear that it was Hayate's own choice.
Taking time to consider Hiron's question, Hayate tried to find the right words. He looked down, staring a this hands. "Hiron-sama you... There are a lot of reasons why you. As I have said before, you... you have been there for me at times when I have needed it most. Times where I needed to talk to someone who was wise enough to give me advice. I trust your opinion Hiron-sama, and your words are very important to me... But, that is not the main reason. You are also Kiyomi's father Hiron-sama... And I would not feel comfortable keeping this from you. I also..." Managing to bring his head up, Hayate once again met Hiron's eyes. "I also hoped to get your blessing... I know that may seem a little foolish, but your opinion means the world to me. And I know it means the world to Kiyomi as well. I would never wish to do anything that could jeopardize the relationship that you two have. That is why I came to you Hiron... Sorry."
Listening to the words of Hayate, Hiron thought about them. Rubbing his chin with his right hand, he thought about it. Then he only sighed as he lowered his right hand. ''''I keep saying that I am not that wise, but fine.'' He mumbled, but it sounded more like he was pouting about it. ''''I respect it that you were willing to bring this up to me. Truth be told, I don't really mind, but seeing Kiyomi's... position and status, it will require more than just my blessing. She is a jinchuriki, which means that the Hokage will keep an eye over her. You would do wise to also remember the Nibi.'' Hiron said. Though he never had met or seen the beast, he had heard that Kiyomi had managed to befriend it. Which sounded strange, but seeing she had even befriended a sentient shark blade, he decided to just accept it. ''I doubt it will be that easy or normal as any other relationship.''
"I am not looking for easy Hiron-sama. I... I don't exactly know what a normal relationship is like anyways. I am in this because I care about your daughter more than I have ever cared about anyone before, and I am in this for as long as she wants me there." Hayate felt a little foolish, as he knew first hand that he didn't understand a thing about real relationships. Hiron's words were true though, there were going to be a lot of obstacles for them to overcome. Hayate wasn't afraid of that prospect however, if anything he was more determined than ever to overcome them. The only thing causing him doubt was the worry that he might cause problems for Kiyomi. "Um..." He began, scratching the back of his head nervously. "...Hiron-sama, do you think... do you think that I would put Kiyomi's future at risk at all?"
''Yes and no.'' The answer came fairly quick, considering that it would be actually a question that required more than just a single yes or no. ''Yes, cause if she has an emotional attachment to you and you're going to get wounded or killed, we will be here with a very angry and pissed off teenager. Kiyomi is showing that she is willing to listen to some of us, but I think it is pretty clear that there are limits. And like always, we have to take the Nibi in consideration.'' Looking at the window, Hiron seemed to consider something. ''Then again, I think it is good for her. She has always been fixed on becoming Hokage for her own personal motives that I can support. When she was by accident made a jinchuriki, I thought it would affect her in a not positive manner. But,'' He turned back to look at the boy. With a warm smile. ''I think I will just put some faith that you can show her some more fun of life. Don't want her to walk the same road as I have been walking. The nickname the Serious doesn't fit her, in my opinion.''
He didn't know what to say. Blushing, Hayate looked away for a moment. "To be honest Hiron-sama, I think we've both been able to help each other with that... Before I met Kiyomi, I rarely talked to other people and I preferred to spend most of my time alone. My time with her has made me a little more open with people, and has helped me grow as a shinobi. If I can share anything like that with Kiyomi then nothing would make me heppier." He paused for a moment before looking up, a light smile touching his face. "If it's any consolation I will do my best to not die. And please understand that I do not wish in any way to put her future at risk. I will do everything in my power to make sure she can reach her dream."
''That make two of us, if not many more.'' Hiron said, still with a smile present on his face. ''I think that means we have talked enough about her. Knowing now that you two have something going on, I rather not have it to hear how much you like her. Not that I dislike it, but you know. Being her guardian and such. That and it is more of her own private life. So far she is able to have one.'' Hiron said. Then he thought briefly about something. ''Besides, when are we going to train?'' Hiron suddenly asked, like it wasn't just a suggestion but like it was already decided that they would.
His grin widening, Hayate bowed his head briefly. "Understood Hiron-sama, and... Thanks. It means a lot." Thrusting both hands into his pockets, Hayate's eyes gained an excited glint at the prospect of training with Hiron again. "I'm ready whenever you are." His tone betraying his excitement.

A fierce training! Another time, but different results?
Timeline: 14 Months Into Timeskip
A collab between Chromehound and Gerontis Summary : A spar between Hiron and Hayate. After it, a kind of training where Hiron will show Hayate a new way to train himself. Hiron had his hands stuffed inside the pockets of his pants. The training field number 7 had a lush grassfield, that was divided due a small river that ran straight through the middle of the field. There were some trees at the side of the field, but other than that nothing interesting. Maybe the steep cliff at the other side of the river? Hiron lightly cocked his head to the right as he viewed Hayate. ''Are you ready?'' Hiron asked, bringing up his right hand to form the Seal of Confrontation. At the same time he tried to think back how their previous spar went. Now he had been trained and improved likely his skill. If not expanded them. He would expect nothing less from the boy's intellect and Kiyomi's drive to train.
Thinking back to the first time that they had faced each other, Hayate remembered the beating he had taken. He hoped that this time would provide a different result. Smiling, Hayate raised his hand and formed the Seal of Confrontation as well. "Ready as I'll ever be Hiron-sama." Seeing that Hayate formed the required signal, Hiron dropped his hand as he examined the boy. There was a considerable change by how the boy stood. More up right and confident. Knowing as well that Hayate was a clever person, he knew that he had to be more tricky than before. Probably had to use Water Release as his main form of attacks instead of Lightning Release.
Leaping backwards, Hiron started to form handsignals at a rapid succession. As he landed on the ground, behind him the water of the river started to stir. Two sharks, made of water jumped up and would try to crash against Hayate. Wanting to test the boy reaction with the Rain Water Shark, Hiron would keep his guard up, just in case.
A grin touched his face briefly as Hiron moved back. Quickly forming his own handseals, Hayate slammed his hand into the earth just as the sharks leapt from the river. A large dome of earth rose up and completely covered Hayate, protecting him from the water sharks. A hole would appear in the front of the dome through which two kunai with explosive tags were thrown.
More a reflex than actually planning to counter it like that, Hiron threw two shuriken to deflect the kunai midway. With seeing that they came out of a hole and the dome itself, Hiron figured it would be wiser to not stand on solid ground. Leaping backwards once more, he intended to land on the river, where he would skid a bit over the water before he came to a halt. Eyeing the surroundings, he wondered what Hayate was planning.
Feeling the water disperse around the outside of the dome, Hayate opened the hole at the front so that it was wide enough for him to step out of. Moving with speed he pulled out several shuriken, charging them with his chakra so that they would become unstable, and launching them in a wide spread towards Hiron. Already preparing more, he wondered how he could move Hiron away from the water. Hayate wasn't very useful on water, and he knew, if he were to have any chance of succeeding, he would need to get Hiron onto dry land.
Pulling again several shuriken, Hiron infused them with lightning to deflect some of the incoming shuriken. Not all, cause he decided that he would need to be cautious with his reserves of weapons. However, it did made him wonder why Hayate was throwing them in such a wide radius. After the throw, Hiron decided to form and make a Water Clone, who would move further back on the water. Pulling out a kunai, the real Hiron decided to go with one of his more traditional tactics.
Watching as Hiron formed a water clone, Hayate's eyes narrowed. Most of his weapons had missed and would simply strike the water and explode harmlessly, causing large splashes of water and nothing more. The rest of his projectiles were deflected to the side before they too exploded harmlessly. Pulling out two more shuriken, Hayate moulded some of his chakra into them, this time not causing them to become unstable, but causing them to become slightly larger. He threw one directly at Hiron, and the second towards his water clone.
Glancing at the water that was suddenly so disrupted, splashing up by the explosions, Hiron turned his gaze back to Hayate. The boy had somehow made them explosive? Seemed that it would be very different from the last time. Deciding he would have to try to keep the weapons of Hayate at a distant, Hiron formed several handsignals before he placed hand at the water. Waiting, he would wait till the shuriken came close to the edge of the river. Pouring his chakra, that he had readied, a wall of water rose up to deflect and stop the projectiles. At the same time, his water clone would use up his chakra to prepare a technique that would make a shift in the battlefield, given enough time.
The water wall stopped both of his projectiles from getting through and they sunk down to the bottom of the river. Thinking fast, Hayate realized he was going to have to adjust his strategy. Pulling out his staff, Hayate quickly took in his surroundings. The river took up enough space that Hiron had a significant advantage, and if the Jounin decided to use that technique from before, then Hayate was going to have to find some higher ground. Spotting the cliff on the opposite side of the field, a plan began forming in Hayate's mind. For now he simply moved backwards, away from the water. Hopefully he could draw Hiron away, but he doubted it. At least this way Hiron would need to use more chakra to send the water this far inland.
Seeing Hayate moving backwards, Hiron rose up from his crouched stance. Not doubting that the boy was just doing it without having a plan, Hiron stayed put. His water clone was almost ready with the prepared technique, so all he had to do was to wait his time out. ''I see you have improved from last time. Seems like you have become even more good at tactical movement.'' Hiron called out, though he meant his compliment, he was wondering if he could strike a conversation to see if he could get more time for his water clone.
Narrowing his eyes further, Hayate did not reply. He was too busy trying to find a way to fight Hiron without entering the water. Glancing back towards the dome he had created, Hayate quickly shifted his vision back to Hiron. Ah, what the hell, He thought, surging forwards towards the river. As Hayate sprinted forwards, he began covering his body with his metal armour. If he was going to take Hiron head on then he wanted to be prepared.
''And there goes my compliment. Kids these days.'' Hiron mused as he readied himself. The shift in the battlefield would start now. The water clone had readied the technique, placing both hands at the water. Pouring the chakra in the water, it would start to expand and heighten up. Like a huge wave, the water would start to flood the area as the clone splashed into water. While he managed to stay on the more calm and rising area of the water, Hiron threw two kunai with explosive tags towards Hayate to keep him occupied.
So he is going with that technique, Hayate grimaced. The huge wave of water began surging towards him and he was forced to react quickly to avoid being caught up in the raging current. His earth dome was within reachable distance, and would give him enough of a height advantage to avoid the wave, but Hayate first had to deal with the incoming explosive kunai. Gathering a little chakra at his feet, Hayate used it to give him more height when he leapt from the ground. Pulling out two kunai, he threw them towards the incoming projectiles, deflecting them from his path. Landing on top of the earth dome, Hayate waited for the wave to die down.
Though he was intending to let the tags explode, Hiron would wait with that. The kunai deflected, they would go to the ground, thus the bottom of the make-shift lake due his technique. With Hayate managing to evade being crushed by the wave that flooded the field, Hiron would keep up the attack. Lightning crackled through the air as it gathered at his right hand. With a quick sweep movement, he seemed to throw a dozen of sharp senbons towards Hayate, made of pure lightning.
Extending his metal armour so that it plunged into the earth dome, Hayate pulled out his staff and held it out in front of him. Splitting the end of the staff into multiple strips, Hayate held it out, using is as a lightning catcher. The incoming lightning senbons hit the split ends of the staff and surged through the metal, travelling down the length of the staff and spreading to Hayate's body. The metal armour conducted the lightning across it and down into the earth dome where it was grounded. Despite grounding the attack successfully, Hayate still felt a slight tingling sensation throughout his body. Withdrawing the metal he had lunged into the earth, Hayate leapt onto the now calm surface of the water. Coating his feet with chakra, he managed to stay on the surface without sinking below. "Do you ever get tired of wrecking training fields Hiron-sama?" He asked with a grin.
''Hhm.'' Hiron thought as he noticed that his attack hadn't worked out. The boy's reflexes and actions were more smooth and faster than before. Simple tactics like trying to overwhelm him wouldn't work. ''When it is about wrecking training field, I think that I am not that bad. It depends on my opponent.'' He tried to ponder on what he should do as it became clear that the boy had found out how to cover the weakness of his release and bloodline ability.
Chuckling, Hayate kept his attention on the battlefield. The majority of the training field was now under water, with the exception of the cliff on the far side, and a few minor patches that remained above the raised water level. Glancing around, Hayate made sure to keep track of the few areas of land that were still above water. Spinning his staff in front of himself, Hayate charged forwards towards Hiron.
His tactical play has improved, but let me see how is close ranged skills are. Hiron thought as he pulled out his tanto. Running towards Hayate, readying the weapon, Hiron was however moulding his chakra. Though he would try to move in close, he had already a trick upon his sleeve to push Hayate in a defense position. Trying to see if he could find an opening, Hiron wouldn't strike as first.
Reaching within striking distance of Hiron, Hayate spun the staff around his body, building up speed for the attack. Pivoting, he whipped the staff around in a vicious arc, aiming towards Hiron's left side. A smirk was the only warning. Hiron quickly ducked as he noticed the staff moving towards him. Leaning forward, Hiron placed his left hand at the water. No sound or visual warning was given, but the electricity of the Silent Shocking technique would travel through the water. With the water amplifying the magnitude of the electricity of the technique would be increased as Hiron hoped it would shock and zap Hayate. And with him being this close..
With Hiron dodging his first attack, Hayate simply continued the movement, rolling over Hiron's back and bringing the staff back around. Pushing off from Hiron's back, Hayate whipped the staff upwards in a vicious uppercut that was angled towards Hiron in his bent over position. The staff travelled towards its target with great speed, and then Hayate landed on the water's surface again... Instantly he could feel the effects of the Silent Shocking technique. The lightning surged around his metal armour, sending shocks through his body. Gritting his teeth, Hayate attempted to finish his attack, already preparing a way to get out of range of the lightning attack.
He.. Hiron managed to stay collected and calm, while he had been surprised. Moving his tanto in position as he turned around, he grunted. The staff hit the tanto, but Hiron could feel the blow. It wasn't that painful, but it was the surprise as he was forced to skid backwards over the water. If he had been even a second slower, the swing would have made some serious blow on him. Narrowing his eyes, Hiron managed to remember their first match. ''Your taijutsu. I take it it is from training with her?'' He asked while rising, but not taking a stance yet.
Pushing himself back a few feet, Hayate managed to get away from the worst of the Silent Shocking. Allowing the metal on his back to grow outwards, he formed the Metal Spiked Shell technique. The lightning from Hiron's technique gathered around the rear of Hayate's armour, dissapating as it reached the spikes and arced off. Shuffling his body to loosen up his numbed muscles, Hayate glanced up towards Hiron. "I have spent a lot of time training and studying to further my skills, and I would be lying if I said that Kiyomi wasn't a huge part of my development. I followed your advice as well though Hiron-sama, and I have done my best to learn from as many talented individuals as I could. I have a long way to go though, so I appreciate you taking the time to spar with one such as myself." Bowing his head in sincere respect, Hayate retracted the spiked shell, the metal armour receding back to its normal form.
Hiron didn't answer at first, but massaged briefly his shoulder. He hadn't anticipated Hayate's strength to increase as well. Probably his daughter's doing as well. It was a bit new what he noticed too. What did the boy learned more, was what Hiron was pondering about. His taijutsu had grown, together with his reflexes. His ninjutsu had also increased in techniques. Maybe he should hold less back. Readying the tanto, Hiron smiled briefly. ''Then lets see.'' Readying his tanto, Hiron would try to move in with a quick slash, aimed at the left shoulder of Hayate. ''How far you have gotten.''
Reacting with a slight grin, Hayate prepared himself for Hiron's charge. Waiting until the jounin was just about to attack, Hayate raised his staff and shifted his weight, using the extra length of the staff to deflect the tanto downwards and away from his body. Spinning around, he swung the staff in a vicious arc towards Hiron's left shoulder. To which Hiron managed to dodge as he made a side step. Holding his tanto still up, either for a quick defensive or offensive manouvre, Hiron's left hand would grab two shuriken. The projectiles were thrown towards Hayate's midsection while the tanto was moved in a feint towards Hayate's shoulder.
Ignoring the incoming shuriken, Hayate felt them ping off his armour. Stepping closer towards Hiron, Hayate brought his staff up in a defensive manner, prepared to knock Hiron's tanto aside. Narrowing his eyes, the fact that the shuriken just were shrugged off said enough. Moving his tanto backwards Hiron would seem to raise his free hand for an attempt to grab the boy, while the jounin seemed to position the tanto to later stab with a quick thrust towards the boy. But like before it were all movements to keep the boy focused on his hands. With a quick movement Hiron would try to raise his leg and kick Hayate backwards.
As Hiron pulled his tanto back, Hayate gathered his chakra at his feet and suddenly surged forwards, seeming to leap towards Hiron with his staff raised. It was just an afterimage however, as Hayate had moved with great speed so that he was behind Hiron. Swinging his staff around, Hayate attempted to sweep Hiron's legs out from under him.
The tanto was dropped out of Hiron's hand. He seemed to first bend through his leg, but then pushed himself off the water as he weaved several handsignals. The move that Hayate had made was one he had seen enough of when Kiyomi had managed to defeat him. A clever trick, but he wouldn't let himself be caught off guard again by it. Forming the few signals, behind Hayate a shark made of water jumped out of the water, intending to bite and then drag Hayate into the water.
Seeing Hiron dodge up and away from his attack, Hayate realized his folly. While the technique worked well against those who were unfamiliar with it, it was obvious that Hiron had faced it before, and most likely from the very person that Hayate had learnt it from. Cursing to himself, Hayate gathered his chakra around his feet and used it to push him to the side with significant force. Noticing something out of the corner of his eye, Hayate glanced to the area he had just been standing. That was close, he thought to himself, as he watched a large shark made of water crash down, an act that would have dragged him below the surface. Hayate knew he would need to find a way to get Hiron away from this water if he ever had a hope of winning this spar. Turning to face Hiron, Hayate whipped out two kunai, causing them to become unstable and throwing them towards the water at Hiron's feet.
Pulling out two shuriken, Hiron threw them to deflect the kunai. ''Stop wasting chakra, Hayate.'' Hiron said. ''It won't help now that I am wary that you can make them explode. Besides,'' The man raised his eyebrows. Thought it had missed the first time, it didn't mean that it was over yet. Moving silently underneath Hayate, the shark attempted it a second time as it's jaws opened in an attempt to catch Hayate. Hiron pulled out a kunai with a blinding tag, reading it to throw it at the genin when he would try to evade the shark again.
The two kunai were deflected to the sides of Hiron, where they exploded harmlessly in the water. As Hiron chastized him, the ghost of a smile appeared on Hayate's lips. "It wasn't a waste Hiron-sama." Was all he said, as the water shark suddenly leapt from the water trying to swallow the boy. At the same time, Hayate's plan kicked into motion.
The real Hayate had been hiding underground ever since he had been hidden from view using the earth dome. While he had sent his clone to occupy Hiron, Hayate had laid in wait for the perfect moment to surprise his foe. His clone's last two explosive kunai had given away Hiron's position and that was when he went for the attack. Hayate created an earth dome that raised up under the water and settled just below the surface. A hand burst forth from the top of the dome as Hayate attempted to grab Hiron's leg and pull him below the earth, using the double suicide decapitation technique.
Meanwhile, Hayate's clone saw the shark leap up from underneath him, its jaws already halfway up his body. Increasing the weight of his metal armour by a significant amount, Hayate's clone released the chakra from around his feet, causing him to sink below the surface with great speed.
The words of Hayate made Hiron frown, making him wary. A bit surprised, Hiron felt the hand of the boy grabbing the leg. Realizing what happened, Hiron was being dragged down, but he wouldn't just go be dragged like that. Due his sharp reflex, the Chidori Current latched out around Hiron. Meanwhile, Hiron tried to grab Hayate back. The water would be a conductor to further spread the lightning and hopefully magnify the electric charge. ''Not too shabby.'' Hiron muttered during the moments.
The water shark clenched its jaws around the clone, turning around in the water as it was half dragged towards the bottom while it kept trying to use the sharp made teeth to attempt to crush the heavy clone before it would attempt to use the heavy weight against the clone. Swimming towards the bottom of the make-shift lake, it would attemtp to slam and crush the clone, using the weight against the clone itself.
Feeling the current of electricity shooting through him, Hayate withdrew back into the dome he had created. Hiron's reaction time was still too fast for him to overcome, so if he was going to have a chance he'd have to catch the jounin off guard. Hayate retreated deep into the earth dome, avoiding the residual lightning that arced inwards. He was going to have to form a new plan and quickly.
The only thing that saved Hayate's clone from immediate destruction when the water shark clenched its jaws was the metal armour that surrounded him. Realizing what the shark was attempting to do, Hayate's clone was left with very limited options. If he waited too long, the shark would slam him into the bottom of the lake and the metal armour wouldn't be enough to protect him from being destroyed. Reaching his decision quickly, the clone overcharged the metal armour and blew himself up. The explosion was large enough to push the water back and it caused a massive shockwave to shoot throughout the lake.
Surprised, Hiron couldn't say that he had expected something not like that. Mainly cause he had some high expectations from Hayate, but yet the boy kept showing that he had improved rather hugely from last time. The shockwave pushed Hiron back, as he had been pulled half into the water. Knowing that he would be better in saving some trouble to not fight the strong current, whipped up by the explosion, Hiron let himself be pushed back. Getting out of the water, he looked around. ''Clever thinking, kid.'' Hiron muttered, more to himself. Now they both had learned something. Hayate knew that his tactic like that wouldn't work on somebody like him, while Hiron knew that Hayate wouldn't try to fight him in a straight fight. Seeing one interesting choice, Hiron started to weave handsignals in a fast succession. Placing a hand at the water, five water sharks would be created. Swimming around, trying to flush out Hayate as Hiron wondered how long Hayate would be capable of hiding underground.
Moving through the earth with speed, Hayate felt the vibrations of the explosion through the ground. Damn... He thought to himself. Coming up into the water was not an option. Hiron was too powerful in that environment, so Hayate would need to surface somewhere that he had more of an advantage. The cliff... Moving swiftly, Hayate made his way towards the cliff he had seen in the distance. Raising out of the earth at the top of the cliff, Hayate looked over the edge, down at Hiron. Cocking his head to the side, he waited for the jounin to react. Your move...
Looking around, Hiron waited patiently. With the sharks swimming around, he would wait before making another move. Walking slowly towards a spot at the lake, where he was a bit at a distance with the two earth domes, Hiron shoved his left hand into the pocket of his pants. He wasn't underestimating Hayate, but trying to rush into action or being to eager to push the boy around could back fire at him. And he disliked it when such a thing happened.
"Seems that we are at a bit off an awkward spot Hiron-sama." Hayate called out, a hint of amusement in his tone. He knew full well that dropping back down to the lake would lead to certain defeat, and at the same time he knew Hiron did not wish to understimate him by moving onto dry land without being careful. The jounin outmatched him in every way, yet Hayate felt a brief flush of pride that he had managed to make the man hesitate, even if it was just for a moment.
Turning around, Hiron raised his eyebrows. ''Aren't we?'' Hiron mumbled. He did grinned as he examined the situation. ''Though I wonder about one fact.'' Hiron called out. ''Are you now trying to pull out a draw, knowing you can't take me down with some of your tactics?'' Hiron asked. In his own opinion, he didn't see any shame in that. Considering how he had once sparred against him, the boy had lost horribly. Now he had managed to create a situation, with using the surroundings, to create a more stale-mate situation. Of course, Hiron could get up and try to force Hayate down the lake. But it would cost in his opinion too much chakra and effort. Besides, they hadn't set any goal, so there was no defender nor attacker in this situation.
Grinning, Hayate looked away for a moment. Turning back he let out a small chuckle. "I am neither foolish, nor prideful enough to assume that I could push you to a true stalemate, Hiron-sama. If you wish for us to end here, then I would gladly accept the loss." Waiting to see what Hiron decided, Hayate allowed himself to relax ever so slightly.
Pondering on it, Hiron slowly nodded. ''Then considered this a loss. However,'' Raising his right hand, Hiron smiled. ''I must compliment you on your improvements, Hayate. You have most certainly learned and grown after the last time I had the honor of sparring against a genin with your capabilities.'' Snapping the fingers of his right hand, the water would slowly lower down as the water sharks would vanish as well. All that would be left would be the two earth domes and the field being damped by the water technique of Hiron.
Nodding his head at Hiron's words. Hayate smiled. "I suppose I should come down and join you then." He said with a laugh, peering over the edge of the cliff. Stepping out over the edge, Hayate gathered chakra at the bottom of his feet, allowing him to stick to the cliff face. Making it about halfway down, Hayte leapt the rest of the way. Standing, he brushed himself off and began walking towards the jounin.
Suddenly, a dome of metal rose from the earth around Hiron and quicly sealed shut. The metal was meshed so Hiron would be able to see out of it, and Hayate could also see inside. Approaching Hiron, Hayate grew a wolfish grin on his face. "Sorry Hiron-sama..." He said, scratching the back of his head. "Kiyomi always tells me to take advantage of whatever situation I can, and uh... well this is the first time I could say you have given me a slight advantage."
The first reaction of Hiron was to look surprised as his hands shot to each other, wanting to form at rapid speed the required seals for the Body Replacement technique. But as the cage formed around Hiron, he stopped. It was formed too fast, what meant he couldn't use the technique to try to prevent himself being caught. Hearing the words of Hayate, Hiron nodded but his attention to the cage. Shoving his left hand into the pocket of his pants, he used his right to knock against the cage. ''Interesting, if I have to be honest.'' Lightning sparked from the right hand as Hiron prepared a jab. Using his Chidori, he slammed it against the cage. ''Very interesting.''
The lightning had slammed and damaged the wall, but much to Hiron's surprise, he hadn't been able to stab through it. There was some damage, but as he pulled his hand back, it was gone within a few moments. ''I can't really blame you for doing this. If somebody taught Kiyomi to do that, you can say that I have just been beaten with my own lesson. Ironic, really.'' Examining the cage furthermore, Hiron glanced at Hayate. ''Quite impressive. I do take it that if I would keep and try to slam my way out, that it will cost you chakra as well? Am I right?''
Nodding his head, Hayate smiled. "That is correct Hiron-sama. Though if you continue to use lightning natured attacks, I think you'll find that it will drain your chakra far faster than mine. This technique is made to counter lightning users, though it can also be used to trap anybody I suppose... The more lightning used to try and escape, the quicker the cage drains their chakra. I admit that it takes a fair amount of chakra to maintain the cage's structural integrity when it is damaged, but as my control improves, I am confident that it will require less chakra." Dropping his hand down, Hayate stuffed them both into the pockets of his jacket. "Right now however, I think you understand the technique, so there's not much of a reason for me to keep it up."
Dissolving his last remaining shadow clone, Hayate reached one hand out and placed it against the cage. Creating a large hole in the front of it, Hayate withdrew his hand and stepped back, allowing Hiron enough room to step out of the cage. Bowing his head slightly, Hayate had an apologetic look on his face. "I am sorry again for tricking you Hiron-sama."
Walking out of the cage, Hiron looked over his shoulder. Troublesome technique for those who relied on lightning ninjutsu. He did noticed some ways that would enable one to escape to be trapped, but in the way how Hayate used it made Hiron aware that the boy already knew the weaknesses of his technique. ''Think...'' Placing a hand on Hayate's shoulder, Hiron smiled. ''I owe you lunch.'' Removing his hand, Hiron chuckled for a second. The boy had managed to grow in a fast pace from the last time. He thought about it. There was just something similiar he could see in Hayate with some other young people. The ability to grow in an unexpected and good way, to surpass a distance and obstacle in a manner he doubted he would be able at their age. ''I think that you have advanced quite well from last time. Very well done, Hayate.''
Blushing, Hayate looked up. "Thank you Hiron-sama... Honestly." The fact that he had managed to catch the jounin by surprise, and that Hiron wasn't mad at him for tricking him, made Hayate smile inwardly. He had been hesitant at first to use the technique, as he wasn't often one that liked to fight dirty. But, his training with Kiyomi had taught him that a true shinobi takes advantage from whatever they can, especially if it is in order to protect something that they care about. "Lunch sounds good, though... shouldn't the loser pay?" He asked Hiron, a smirk on his face.
''If you can afford it, then be my guest.'' Hiron mused, amused as he glanced at Hayate's direction. ''Besides, it shows respect to treat your superior on a nice lunch.'' Hiron coughed twice as he tried to his smile. He wanted to say he was proud of the boy, but Hayate wasn't his student. Yet, Hiron felt he had managed to teach him something. Or maybe it was that Hayate had taught him something? Deciding to not continue to wonder about it, Hiron turned around. ''Lets go then. Before somebody noticed I was again close of drowning a field.''
Laughing at the mention of drowning the field, Hayate glanced around them quickly, looking at the shape they had left the training field in. It had indeed been fun... Turning to head back to the village, Hayate glanced over his shoulder towards Hiron. "Well... I can afford it so long as you eat like a regular person." Grinning, Hayate turned back. He was glad that he could bond with Hiron. It made him feel a little closer to Kiyomi. Hayate just wished he didn't have to hide their relationship from Keiko...
''I will try, that is all I can promise, ki- Hayate.'' Hiron quickly adjusted the last word of his sentence. Though Hayate was still a genin and had a long way to prove he was a true shinobi in Hiron's opinion, he was on his way. Thus maybe it would be a good sign to just say his name instead of calling him kid all the time. Walking with Hayate back, Hiron had pushed the thought he had earlier away. He didn't really see the need to ponder about it. It was better to just see how it would go. And more interesting.
Chuckling, Hayate kept his hands in his pockets as he walked. "I suppose that will have to do." He said with a smile. They continued the long walk to the village in relative silence, and Hayate was glad that it didn't feel like an awkward silence. Walking next to the jounin, Hayate hoped that he would one day be on the same level of Hiron. Until that point he would continue to train and do his best.
